Description:
The Copy Intern should be a logical and organized thinker. At the very bottom of every assignment, writers are tasked with the sequential introduction of information. Once the sequence is nailed down, our teammates rely on us for the succinct explanation of ideas. Subject matter expertise is important, but not initially required of any anyone who can handle these first two things. Knowledge builds over time. That said, a general interest in financial planning would probably benefit all involved.
Responsibilities:
Your #1 responsibility is to learn. But, you will be learning through experience, because that’s what an internship is, right? So, here’s what to expect.
- Learn what types of writing assignments exist here at LearnVest. You’ll do this by working with other writers to brainstorm and edit copy
- Work with Copy Director to learn how to approach a variety of formats, including mobile, web, print, long-form documentation and presentations
- Learn about different design disciplines, and how copywriters collaborate with visual and UX designers, as well as research
- Learn about financial planning — this might sound boring, but it may turn out to be the most useful thing you learn in the long run. (Don’t sweat it, we make it interesting.)
- Collaborate with other interns on an internal project.
Qualifications:
- Writers at LearnVest come from wildly diverse backgrounds, so we’re open to speaking with just about anyone who loves to write. That said, there are some technical things to discuss:
- Currently in the junior or senior year of undergrad, or a graduate student.
- Studying something that requires an expression of yourself, in one way or another Writes regularly, for school or otherwise
- You need a basic knowledge of grammar or you probably will hate it here
- An extreme passion for understanding people, and a strong desire to communicate clearly and efficiently
- All you need to know is MS Word or google docs or… whatever
- A strong portfolio. Online is better. If you’re published, great — you can send links. If not, email some stuff.
