Director of Communications
Who We Are
The Farmer’s Dog was created to radically improve the $90 billion global pet food industry — starting with a subscription service that sends freshly-made food directly to customers’ doors. Long term, our aim is to simplify every part of pet care, bettering the lives of the animals who make our lives better. Backed by the early investors of Warby Parker, Dollar Shave Club, and Sweetgreen, we've raised over $100M in funding and seek to build a company as healthy as the dogs we feed.
Join The Farmer’s Dog team as we continue to figure out ways of bringing peace of mind to customers, health to their companions, and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their pets.

Where You'll Come In
When it’s easier than ever for brands to talk about themselves and pay for impressions and attention, what others say and write about you is increasingly critical for breaking through and authentically changing hearts, minds, and behavior. This is especially true in industries and categories where the status quo is entrenched and a progressive shift in thinking is required to inspire change. The Farmer’s Dog is looking for a Director of Communications to craft and execute a holistic and dynamic earned media and communications strategy that will optimally position the company and our founders across key audiences and partners, and serve as a catalyst for continued growth in category awareness, brand love, and business growth.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Refine and own the company’s overall PR and earned media strategy; including clearly defined objectives, audiences, and measures of success
- Execute that strategy by proactively unearthing and crafting story angles and pitching them to relevant media outlets on an ongoing basis
- Nurture relationships with the media and the press, keeping The Farmer’s Dog top-of-mind
- Work with our co-founders on media training and individual press/thought leadership strategies
- Suggest impactful ideas for activations, campaigns, and “brand behaviors” that could support company objectives while also generating earned media
- Proactively develop cross-functional communication frameworks, processes, and guides for a range of predictable and unexpected scenarios
- Stay abreast of internal developments and external/cultural moments and trends to identify earned media opportunities
- Select and manage external agency partner(s) as needed
We're Excited About You Because
- You are an outstanding written and verbal communicator. You’re able to distill complex topics into concise, clear language that gets attention and leaves an impression
- You see possibility for earned media and ‘brand moments’ in everything, but know how to dedicatedly prioritize and focus
- You can oscillate between high-level critical thinking and putting pen to paper
- You strategize and connect with integrity, never misleading audiences, “creating news” without substance, or disclosing sensitive/confidential information
- You can collaborate with diverse teams and individuals and translate their unique needs and goals into brand-aligned communications opportunities
- You have a strong network of existing media and press relationships, and the ability to establish and nurture new ones
- You are comfortable using and proactively asking for data to advise decisions
