The Role:

The Director of Search and Recommendations will be a senior product management leader overseeing an autonomous team of software developers, data scientists, QA engineers, and content SMEs. Your team’s priority will be building highly relevant systems to recommend learning content. The Search & Recommendations team is focused on helping teachers align engaging learning experiences with the lesson plans and standards they have in mind. The experience of using Newsela for teaching and learning should be beautiful, empowering, and fun. As a senior leader on the product management team, you will be part of a highly collaborative group working to develop a strategy and execute on the next generation of learning experiences.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Your work will directly impact the evolution and growth of a product that reaches over 20 million users and helps shape the future of K-12 education. As a Director, you will get to lead an autonomous team that is deeply entrenched in the design and development of a crisp, intuitive, engaging product. As part of your work, you will have access to a vast repository of learning data on which to build powerful and effective search, recommendation, and discovery tools. As part of an energized and growing team, you will also get to visit classrooms and talk to teachers to learn about their unique challenges, and how Newsela might be able to solve for them.

Why We’ll Love You:

An experienced Director, you’ve spent 8-10 years understanding the complexities of finding the right selection in a vast array of content. You have an intuitive understanding of what makes great products, and the technical expertise to understand recommender systems, and how to lead teams to build and train search engines and recommendation systems. A fanatic for organization, you love helping others stay organized during long, complex projects. You can inspire others to achieve your vision, and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to do what is needed on a tight timeframe. You may even have worked in education, or are keen to dig into this world and learn what it takes to empower teachers to do what they do best - inspire their students to want to learn.

About Newsela:

One of the fastest growing tech companies in K-12 education, Newsela was founded on the principle that while every child learns differently, they all deserve a rich learning experience that ignites a love of learning.
