Position Summary: Freelance Coordinator, Media Relations will assist with media outreach, writing press materials, administrative tasks, and other such duties as required related to MLB Network and NHL Network as assigned.

 Responsibilities:

  • Accurately transcribe on-air programming for media pitches on a daily basis.
  • Distribute local programming listings to national and local media.
  • Assist in fielding media requests for on-air talent.
  • Monitor and compile media coverage.
  • Assist in drafting press materials.
  • Research and prepare media lists.
  • Perform general administrative tasks.
  • Other such duties as required

 It is expected that the Freelance Coordinator, Media Relations will maintain and increase knowledge in the public relations as well as the sports television industry on an ongoing basis. 

  

Skills & Experience: The ideal candidate must have most if not all of the following skills and experiences:

  •  1-3 years of media relations experience handling media opportunities and requests.
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for baseball and hockey.
  • Excellent writing, grammar and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and remain focused and well-organized.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed.
  • Exude an enthusiastic, proactive attitude.
  • Individual must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement process improvements, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate the tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and superior people skills required in the pressurized environment of live television.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AP Style, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively while exposed to varying and unpredictable weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk various distances between required on-site locations.
  • Possess the visual acuity and hearing acuity sufficient to effectively perform required tasks.

  

Education: Bachelor’s degree is required; Communications or Public Relations major is preferred.
