BuzzFeed is looking for a brilliant, funny, and dedicated freelance Social Media Coordinator to provide support for BuzzFeed's Black culture and entertainment team: Cocoa Butter. Reporting to tour Cocoa Butter Content Lead and collaborating across a social video team, you will help to grow our accounts, jump in on trending news and adapt our content schedule depending on breaking stories. You'll also work with our data team to communicate the results of our projects and adapt original Cocoa Butter content to mobile-first social platforms. You have professional experience in social media and digital programming, and success in developing high-profile accounts with a thoughtful, playful approach.

You will use data to inform decisions and will collaborate closely with the data and analytics team, the editorial team, and video producers to ensure that our content is being released in the most optimal way across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You are comfortable managing multiple priorities as well as working collaboratively or independently.

Our future Social Media Resident will have a natural understanding of virality, and be able to understand and summarize how and why certain pieces of content blow up — where did they take off, what makes them special, and why are they worth sharing?

This is a 3-month, 40-hour/week role, $25/hour, on-site at our Manhattan headquarters, with the potential to extend or convert into a staff position.

You will:

• Monitor discussions, posts, and comments across multiple Twitter and Instagram channels and other social media platforms

• Plan, implement and analyze video and distributed content releases and schedules across multiple platforms

• Create original creative content for Cocoa Butter social accounts on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other platforms

• Manage Cocoa Butter social accounts and increase their growth by developing a social media strategy

• Use knowledge of online video and platform best practices to present our videos in the most shareable way, helping them to have the biggest reach

• Monitor the Internet for social news opportunities and work with editors on those pieces

• Run monthly reports using our data dashboards to review content's performance and growth on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and make adjustments as needed

You have:

• At least one year of professional experience running social accounts for a major publisher or brand

• Understanding of the digital landscape and up-to-date knowledge of developments in web applications

• A history of creating viral tweets on Twitter and engaging an audience

• Experience tracking down leads and original content sources

• Deep enthusiasm for finding, sharing, and writing about videos from the deepest trenches of the web

• Have a positive, curious disposition

• High emotional intelligence and the ability to provide constructive criticism in a small team environment
