Our company is made up of driven, passionate people who bring their unique backgrounds and perspectives to everything we do and we are committed to fostering diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion. We see the perspectives that each person brings and a diverse workforce as essential for individual and collective success. We believe it’s important to foster a company culture that encourages curiosity and passion—from employee resource groups and learning opportunities to team outings and community outreach.

A Better opportunity:

As a Public Affairs Associate, you will play a meaningful role in our advocacy strategy for building partnerships with third parties, issue groups, and nonprofits across the country. You will be one of the frontline managers of our advocacy priorities, including maintaining relationships with organizations in our key states, as well as leading the formalization of partnerships with those groups in order to serve our public policy goals and our legislative priorities. You will work closely with people across the company, including government affairs, communications, legal, and compliance, in our effort to cement our relationships with key advocacy partners.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing the political landscape throughout the country, helping determine influential organizations and potential partners, and their impact in relevant states and with relevant lawmakers
  • Advocating for company’s public policy priorities to external parties, through speaking engagements and the written word
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders across the business to identify public policy initiatives, and helping translate them in a way that’s accessible to external audiences
  • Participating in roundtables and engagements to raise the company’s profile in areas relevant to our business interests
  • Cultivating day-to-day relationships with external parties, creating partnerships that are mutually beneficial
  • Appealing to groups internally, making the pitch for additional resourcing and emphasis on issues that will bolster our policy goals
  • Having good common sense and political instincts, able to adapt as situations change both internally and externally

About you:

The ideal candidate will be a thoughtful and effective communicator who can navigate uncertainty and has outstanding political instincts, and who also has the following:

  • At least four years of policy, advocacy, or government relations experience in a corporate, third party, or legislative setting
  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience
  • Experience fostering cross functional relationships with an ability to listen, collaborate, and influence others to achieve the common goal of elevating our public policy and legislative priorities
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to identify and share compelling, relevant stories that support business objectives
  • Strong project management skills with proven ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize assignments

The Better mission is rooted in values that drive us.

  • We do what’s in the best interest of the consumer, not ourselves
  • We have growth mindsets, not fixed ones
  • We believe that success lies in execution, not credentials
  • We act like owners, not just employees
  • We work to find answers on our own, not wait for them to be given to us
  • We optimize for mission, not ego

Our mission speaks for itself—we continue to outpace the industry at every turn. We’ve recently joined forces in partnership with Ally Bank, and our backers have helped build some of the most transformative tech and finance companies in history. Kleiner Perkins, Goldman Sachs, American Express, Citigroup, Activant Capital, Ally Bank, and others have invested in our vision for what homeownership can be.
