OVERVIEW

The Broadly Senior Social Editor will oversee the voice and creative direction of Broadly’s social platforms. They are a crucial part of the Broadly team and will own social strategy from the Broadly accounts among the different territories and distribution platforms, including the VICE app and newsletters.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Use news judgment and data to oversee curation of Broadly and VICE network stories on all social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, newsletter and VICE apps
• Inform editorial team on headlines and packaging optimized for socials to maximize click through and engagement on all stories
• Identify and assess new opportunities and partnerships for content distribution and social growth
• Oversee social strategy and roll-out for Broadly packages and initiatives
• Build and execute on social-first franchises and content plans
• Oversee new initiatives for audience development, including expanding Broadly’s presence on current social platforms and developing new ones
• Pitch stories to editorial staff based on social performance
• Act as eyes and ears on social platforms, alerting the newsroom to breaking news
• Creative direction across platform-specific content with our production teams, including text, photo, video, and interactive
• Liaise between international territories to optimize posting schedule and inform on best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; newsroom experience a huge plus
• 3-5 years experience in journalism, social media or newsroom experience at a major media company
• Familiarity with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Facebook Insights and reporting data from these platforms required
• Familiarity with the VICE Network and brand voice
• Creative background, especially in regards to video, multimedia, visual and interactive media, and how these translate to engagement
• Experience with animation, illustration, or Adobe Premiere and Photoshop a plus
