The Role:

The Social Media Coordinator will work hand-in-hand with our Social Media Manager to own day to day management of all of Newsela’s social platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and more. You’ll be ideating and producing highly shareable, social-first content that drives engagement, as well as adapting and optimizing existing content for distribution on social media in conjunction with senior creatives. You’ll be writing copy for news stories, doing light graphic and video editing, ensuring effective tracking / UTM parameters are included on all posts, and adjusting editorial schedules in real-time based on the news cycle and what’s trending. You’ll be performing social listening and actively engaging on a daily basis with teachers all across the country, routing customer support requests as needed, and monitoring brand mentions and activity on our posts.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Teachers are natural collaborators, and social media is the ideal vehicle for them to share content, stories of success, and lend support to one another. In short, you’ll play a key role in helping shape and facilitate these conversations every day.  Since March of 2020, Newsela has been used for distance learning in two-thirds of US schools. K-12 school districts across the country are rapidly adopting new approaches to instructional content. Newsela is at the center of that transformation, with a vast library of high quality instructional materials that are authentic, engaging, and made ready for classroom use. We are well-positioned to seize this market opportunity and more importantly, help the millions of teachers and students that are already registered with Newsela. Your role will directly enable our ability to engage with teachers and help them deliver their best lessons on a daily basis.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have excellent writing chops, solid news judgment, an eye for production and design, and innovative ideas about how to evolve Newsela’s social presence. You’re a natural storyteller with a passion for social media, and have excellent news judgment, great instincts for what content engages audiences, and are able to synthesize information into succinct copy with impeccable grammar and attention to detail. You’re a strategic thinker who believes in using data to inform decisions and improve performance. You enjoy being at the center of multiple projects, love collaborating across teams, are self-sufficient and thrive on prioritizing and executing multiple activities against a timeline. While you’re not a designer, you understand what it means to follow brand guidelines, have a good design sense, and an interest in light design work using widely used editing tools.

About Newsela:

One of the fastest growing tech companies in K-12 education, Newsela was founded on the principle that while every child may have unique learning preferences, they all deserve a rich learning experience that ignites a love of learning. We built our platform based on learning science research to deliver the most engaging, authentic content to modernize how teaching happens in the classroom. Along with interactive assessments and tools, we provide teachers with digital content at five reading levels -- from +100 of the best sources -- that is relevant to the diverse backgrounds and interests of their students. Since we started in 2013, we’ve established a presence in 90% of U.S. K-12 schools and over 2.5M teachers and 37M students have registered with Newsela.
