Sr. Manager, Communications

The Sr. Manager, Communications will develop and lead the communications strategy for Foursquare’s innovation arm, creating and implementing a program that highlights some of the most exciting parts of our business. Focused on conceiving of and executing plans that communicate Foursquare’s vision, the hire will also be charged with understanding and integrating external trends, helping to influence the topics and initiatives that the comms team undertakes. It’s the job for a true people person: he/she comes to us with strong media connections, and in addition, understands the value of developing deep relationships across the company to support internal comms, as well.

This person’s primary goal will be to drive coverage that illustrates how Foursquare is the leader in location technology via stories that span print, broadcast, digital, and more, and is targeted toward consumers of all types but particularly leaders and technologists.

How the job gets done

  • Work closely with key partners in Comms, Marketing, Creative and Product to develop a steady cadence of stories and initiatives that drive press coverage.
  • Build unique strategies for a myriad of creative initiatives, themes and/or stories each quarter.
  • Work alongside Foursquare’s creative and comms teams and other key stakeholders to incubate story ideas that support company goals, while offering a fresh new perspective on trends that will be relevant to all.
  • Stay in close contact with our creative team to identify large campaigns that will intrigue and entertain consumer and business audiences. Execute on the idea from ideation to messaging, pitching, and coverage.
  • Develop messaging and plans for supporting the consumer apps, Foursquare City Guide and Foursquare Swarm, and new projects as necessary.
  • Charged with knowing and entertaining the media (specifically tech business and consumer), keeping them informed of our progress and new ideas as they’re developed, and landing in-depth coverage.
  • Responsible for understanding the pulse of the company and supporting the Director of Communications with internal communications initiatives both large and small.
