About Narrativ

Narrativ is a 40-person, seed-stage product recommendation platform. We build technology for brands to measure, compare and optimize their fastest growing recommendation channel -- commerce publishers.

Shoppers are asking the Internet personal, nuanced questions from “What are the best shoes for a second round interview?” to “What is the best pillowcase to prevent hair loss?” Commerce publishers like The New York Times’ Wirecutter and Allure produce the best recommendations that answer these questions -- an unmined data source with the potential to transform a $175bn digital economy.

Why we’re special:

  • Ambitious technology: Our technology mines and organizes the world’s product data in a way that’s useful (rather than intrusive) for consumers. We built a product graph featuring 80mm SKUs enriched with $20bn of monthly cart data, making it the largest database of products matched to product recommendation.
  • Talented team: Fast Company recently named Narrativ one of the 50 best workplaces for innovators, fashion disruptor by Financial Times, and a technology pioneer by the World Economic Forum. We’re here to pursue greatness, embrace challenge and relentlessly improve every day.
  • Fast growth: We’re a diverse team -- with experience from McKinsey to Dropbox, Bloomberg to Glossier -- that’s doubling in size over the next year.

Join us for the opportunity to impact billions of shoppers on our mission to improve the value of every recommendation -- to create a better Internet for shoppers.

The Job:

We have big plans for the next 24 months, and whoever leads our marketing efforts will be tasked with helping us reach aggressive customer and revenue growth targets. Because our customers are storytellers—brand marketers, publishers, commerce editors—whoever leads our marketing team must have storytelling in their bones. S/he must be able to translate our technology into friendly messages for those who value ease of use and to transmit its power and sophistication to buyers who seek out new, cutting edge tools.

We’ve already laid down some foundations. Whoever leads our marketing efforts will have a brand tool kit and basic marketing strategy to start with. It will be your job to implement both and to improve upon them based on results. We thrive on imagination as much as iteration, and we’ll be eager to see the creative ideas you develop to drive awareness of our brand and to support our sales efforts. Because we are young and have had only an incipient marketing team, there is much work to be done along every part of the customer journey.

We know you’ll need help. We have a dedicated budget for you to build out a small and mighty team over the first six months. You may also choose to work with contractors or agencies, and we’ll trust you to source the best talent and manage those relationships.

Finally, you’ll be a thought partner to the CEO around Narrativ’s brand and its expression. You’ll be equal parts sympathizer and skeptic, in order to ensure we always hew to our own standards of excellence. In short, you’ll be Narrativ’s brand guardian.

About you:

As for qualifications, we’re looking for someone who has confidence in their analytical and storytelling skills (writing and editing text is a must, better still if you’ve also worked in other formats) as well as your ability to build and inspire a team. That means you’ve spent some time in marketing, have met and exceeded performance KPIs, and have managed others. You’re data informed and wildly creative and don’t see any contradiction between the two. You’re also comfortable in a startup environment, where change is the norm.

Narrativ is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or veteran status.
