Application Management Services (AMS) is a global IT organization that provides business application Maintenance, Support, and Operations, globally, through DevOps and traditional models based on application maturity and strategic importance. Our globally distributed team supports business applications across all regions, all divisions (Research, Manufacturing, Commercial, Enterprise, Animal Health) and all business processes. As a trusted IT partner, AMS helps our Business and IT colleagues to achieve their end-to-end objectives from capability development, through operations, and ultimately to retirement. Application Management Services (AMS) Global Service Lead is responsible for support and maintenance (Operations) of the Enterprise Platforms with a focus on Analytics, Integration, Master Data Management, Hyper-Automation, Business Process Management, AI/ML. The Service Lead will manage global services contracted through 3rd party sourcing vendors delivering efficient and responsive services that enable our business to run.
Responsibilities include:

  • Provide thought leadership, high-level, and detailed-planning around all competencies that will be needed to complement and/or extend the Application Maintenance Support and Operations
  • Drives business-IT outcomes; manages communications and expectations with business client. Interacts with respective CTO & other Divisional Product & Product Line Managers.
  • Participates in overall business planning, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems as related to the organization's strategic plan.
  • Develop strong external and internal network to enable innovation, automation, stay current with industry trends, and establish effective vendor partnerships.
  • Develop and supports the practices of product management and agile delivery, building the mindset of accountability, customer centricity and empower teams to continuously improve the impact and quality of the automation products and services we deliver.
  • Provide leadership in defining OKRs for the products and product line and focus and drive activity in line with ROI/value realization.
  • Build, grow and support talent in Product teams through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and giving feedback.
  • Advance the IT Transformation related to the Product Model and new ways of working.
  • Manages a defined service unit, including team design, workflow and procedures, aggregate demand management, estimating, work assignments, service agreements, and sourcing specific to the service.
  • Builds a strategic IT capability through strategic staffing, and organizational development, as well as employee recruitment, retention and people development
  • Operational Supplier management to track against deliverables, OKRs and SLAs
  • Participates in negotiations with Service Providers, e.g. contract issues, new services, etc.
  • Facilitate the rationalization, synchronization, consolidation and/or elimination of applications and technologies in the account area to reduce complexity and increase business agility.
  • Ensure that all service management processes, procedures, operating level agreements and underpinning contracts are appropriate for the agreed service level targets.
  • People management (~5 global and over 300 vendor resources
  • Demand Management activities supporting the business areas
  • Financial Management related to the operational budget in application support area
  • The nature of the position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and proven leadership in complex team situations. The position will interact with several levels in the organization and will be critical in establishing good relationships with numerous regional and global functions.


Skills and experience:

  • Bachelor´s Degree with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, System Engineering, or appropriate skills based equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience with emphasis on functional and technical leadership, as well as in managing IT services and projects in a highly complex and dynamic business environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience to manage a staff and provide workforce management including geographically distributed external strategic partners.
  • Effective in people management, communication and change management as well as in coaching managers and team members.
  • Ability to achieve goals through others without having direct responsibility for them is critical.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to identify and leverage the right people, processes, and tools to achieve planned results on time and on budget.
  • Has demonstrated strong strategic and tactical skills, excellent presentation oral, written, and graphical communications skills, as well as ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding.
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic, rapidly changing, highly matrixed business environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and enable/facilitate productive and business-like meetings as well as to work with individuals at all levels and demonstrate a level of professionalism that instils confidence and inspires trust.
  • Ability to understand, plan, track and be accountable for department budgets.
  • Excellent skills using IT applications to organize and analyze data.
