The Fellowship is designed to move our Fellows into high-paying software engineering jobs that take their incomes from $85,000 across the course of this four-year fellowship.

We work with employer partners that love hiring our Fellows because they are so well prepared, ranging from big financial firms to scrappy startups, and everything in between. We also activate and engage hundreds of volunteers that come from all areas of the tech industry. These experts and professionals help keep our curriculum fresh and our standards for achievement high by participating in our admissions process, as well as program-specific activities such as interview training, DemoDays, Hackathons, and Capstone projects. 

We are expanding our programs to reach even more individuals from low-income backgrounds, and we are hiring a Career Coach and Instructor to train them. Our nontechnical instructional staff play a vital role in Pursuit’s mission by teaching our Fellows the soft skills necessary to ace their job searches and proceed with confidence in this next phase of their professional journey.

As Career Coach and Instructor you will: 

  • Coach Fellows in the creation of impactful, compelling materials necessary for their job search as they prepare for their first jobs in tech. 
  • Provide industry-informed, actionable and effective feedback through graded review of personal brand assets such as resumes, cover letter templates, and performance in mock interviews.
  • Share your knowledge of best practices with a class of adult learners by leading job readiness instruction via lectures, activity-based learning workshops, resume & cover letter reviews, and projects designed to give Fellows the tools they need to navigate their job searches successfully. 
  • Guide Fellows through interview training, personal pitches, and development of online brand presence. 
  • You will work with our existing robust curriculum created by our in-house team. Instructors at Pursuit are encouraged to contribute feedback, ideas, improvements, activities and assets to our curriculum.
  • Create a positive and professional learning environment, fostering a community that goes beyond the classroom.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the larger program team to track individual and cohort progress.

What you need to be considered for this role: 

  • 2 - 4 years professional experience as a career coach OR as a recruiter, talent acquisition specialist, or software engineer
  • A developed perspective of what it takes to successfully land a job in today’s job market as a junior software developer, including knowledge of the tech industry landscape and job market, ideally as part of the hiring process (hiring manager, recruiter, HR team)
  • Experience creating excellent content, and delivering presentations to large groups of people.
  • Ability to give constructive, actionable feedback to people of all backgrounds, in writing and verbally.
  • Data-driven and outcomes-oriented. comfortable using systems to keep track of large amounts of data and progress to goals and identifies opportunities to collect feedback on work.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate individuals from different backgrounds

Where you’ll work: 

  • Virtually—for now—from your home or our community office space in Long Island City, NYC
  • Because we are One Big Team, we are having conversations on what a return to in-person work schedules would look like and are actively gathering feedback from staff and fellows to determine the best course of action 

When you’ll work: 

  • Schedule TBD, but this would require a non-traditional schedule to cover classes that run during the day and during nights & weekends. We will work with our new hire(s) to find a schedule amenable to all.
