About CBI:

First, some data on the growth of CB Insights:

  • 2015 - 66 teammates
  • 2016 - 104 teammates
  • 2017 - 168 teammates
  • 2018 - 209 teammates
  • 2019 - 292 teammates
  • 2020 - 302 teammates
  • Today - 350+ and growing

Over that same period, our revenue has grown 800%. Underpinning this growth is the CB Insights Technology Intelligence platform, the vast market we have to capitalize on, and a great team with top talent across all levels. Additionally during the past 12 months while others have floundered, we have thrived - adding new datasets to our platform, two company acquisitions, key new products to facilitate better data ingestion for our customers.

The Role You’ll Play:

We are looking for a highly dynamic Chief of Staff (Sr. Director level) who has helped tech companies navigate growth and change, from a business and product perspective, to the 1000 employee size. This person will be helping guide and support senior leadership through an accelerated growth phase and will report to the COO, playing a key leadership role in driving a strong, cross-departmental culture of accountability, execution, and delivery across the organization.  The Chief of Staff will own key priorities, programs, and initiatives, balancing progress on long-term projects, with strong execution.  This role will be responsible for working across the executive team to translate meetings and ideas into actionable plans and timelines.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the center of a quickly growing, self-funded, profitable SaaS business that is fundamentally improving and redefining how people and organizations make technology decisions. We are looking at accelerated growth rates for the next few years, in existing and new verticals. At the same time keeping an eye on keeping and improving our efficiency metrics. As there will be growth, there will also be growing pains, and opportunities. We have a lot that we CAN do, but it will be key to well define what we SHOULD do, and execute the transformational initiatives well while we are all moving fast.

This role will help us remain on top of our growth with remarkably few problems, while holding leaders accountable and keeping them coordinated in their priorities. In some ways it’s like herding cats. Your primary mission will be to add structure and processes to the way we operate in order to improve strategic alignment, execution and communications within the leadership team and across the company. You will use your unique vantage point to connect the dots across the entire organization. As a strategic thought partner, sounding board, and trusted confidante to the COO, you will help inform strategy and key decision-making, as well as the choices of prioritization and trade-offs

Your Main Tasks:

  • Build systems, coordinate and manage the key cross-team initiatives, plans and priorities for the near (e.g. week, month, quarter), medium (year)  and long (multi-year) terms. In particular, who needs to do what, by when, what are the required resources and trade-offs
  • Build strong relationships across the organization to enable strong collaboration, clear decision-making, and an ability to solve complex problems when necessary
  • Coordinate with COO and all other stakeholders regularly  to ensure priorities are set and maintained, and to surface potential new problems and learnings
  • Manage recurrent executive meetings including agenda and reporting prep, and follow-ups
  • Track progress against executive team objectives and flag status issues to executive leadership when there is impact to company objectives; support accountability for key initiatives and deliverables owned by each org
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and sounding board in assessing strategic and tactical opportunities to the COO and other key executives at the company

What you bring to the table:

  • At least 6 years of experience in consulting, business program management and/or or experience in a strategic and/or operational role at a high-growth SaaS startup with 350+ employees
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Great written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding organization, planning, project management, and prioritization skills
  • High EQ, with demonstrated ability to foster communication, collaboration and alignment across Executive teams
  • Ability to make trade-offs and manage potential conflict and disagreement
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.   MBA a plus but not required

You’ll be successful here if:

  • Ability to “lead through influence” in all levels of the organization
  • Comfort working in a high-growth, constantly changing environment.
  • Sense of urgency with pragmatic approach
  • Ability to multi-task and tenacity to drive deliverables across the company
  • Bias towards action and sense of urgency
  • Highest level of integrity and management of confidential information
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to provide input and insight into new ideas or ways of thinking
  • Great communication skills
