Primary Responsibilities:

MLB Draft Operations: manage the planning, preparation and execution of the MLB Draft

• Draft Planning and Execution: collaborate with other MLB departments (g., Special Events, PR, Design Services) and Clubs on the planning and execution of the Draft
• Draft Eligibility and Administration: manage process for determining Draft eligibility of amateur players and other administrative tasks necessary for the execution of the Draft
• Draft IT Systems: work with IT to develop and test the Draft eligibility and Draft operations functionality in the MLB Draft Prospect Link and EBIS

Scouting Information and Data: oversee Commissioner’s Office programs to provide data, video and other information to Clubs for players eligible for the MLB Draft

• MLB Draft Prospect Link: oversee the development and administration of the MLB Draft Prospect Link to streamline biographical and medical information collection process
• Data and Video: work with internal MLB video staff and third-party vendors on video and data coverage for domestic scouting events
• Top Prospects Pre-Draft Programs: oversee the execution of the Top 50 Pitchers Pre-Draft MRI Program and the Top 300 Prospects Medical Information Program
• Other Data and Information Services: manage other domestic scouting data services and identify new opportunities to provide support for Club scouting operations

Amateur Scouting Strategy & Initiatives: help to set Commissioner’s Office strategy for domestic amateur and work with other MLB departments, USA Baseball and third parties to execute strategy

• Joint USAB-MLB Initiatives: work closely with USA Baseball, Baseball Development, and other MLB departments on the PDP League, new collegiate summer leagues, and other initiatives, including the selection of players, schedule and programming, and promotion/marketing of the League
• Pre-Draft Combine: plan and implement a pre-draft combine for the top prospects for each year’s upcoming draft, with a focus on medical and physical assessments
• Third-Party Events and Vendors: work with third-party domestic scouting events and vendors to further Commissioner’s Office goals for domestic scouting and the MLB Draft
• Analysis: Complete analysis of domestic amateur and MLB Draft topics for Commissioner’s Office and Clubs
• Internal Collaboration: work closely with International Operations to share best practices from each area of amateur talent acquisition and collaborate where possible

Club Support: assist Clubs and serve as key point of contact on any topics related to the MLB Draft or domestic scouting, including i) interpretation of and compliance with Draft rules and policies; and ii) collecting feedback on the Commissioner’s Office priorities and strategy in this area

Special Projects and Other Baseball Economics & Operations Responsibilities: Other projects as assigned by Vice President, Amateur & Medical

Desired Skills:

• Very strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong quantitative background including experience working with large data sets and leading complex analysis

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint)
• Experience with SQL—or other relational database platforms—and statistical modeling software (R, STATA, etc.)
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced business environment
• Familiarity with, and interest in, Major League Baseball, particularly in thr MLB draft, scouting and amateur baseball.

Experience:

• Undergraduate degree with strong academic performance, preferably including a focus in scientific or other quantitative coursework
• 3-5 years professional experience preferred
• Previous experience with an MLB Club or the Commissioner’s Office preferred
