We're hiring a Director of Product Operations.
About our team and what we'll build together
We're looking for a Director of Product Operations with a passion for lean software development to join the Digital Product and Technology team and lead our department of project managers, scrum masters, and support personnel.
You are obsessed with creating processes which allow engineers to deliver their best work. You're always thinking of how to push the bounds of what's possible through inspired and ethical technology. You thrive on mentoring and motivating teams through shared learning and exploration, and fostering a positive culture of collaboration and accountability that continually improves upon itself.
Your team works across the entire product development organization to increase the flow of end-to-end delivery of new products at theSkimm. Working with your project management staff, you will oversee the planning and execution of work performed by our product, design, and engineering staff. Working with your support staff, you will ensure that both internal users and our customers understand how to use our systems and services. You will be a key leader in our team with wide-ranging responsibilities, not only responsible for the execution of our initiatives and goals, but helping to define the culture we use to achieve that vision.
How you'll contribute to our mission

  • Nurture a team culture of proactive communication, efficiency, and problem-solving
  • Define, codify, and iterate on the product development process across multiple disciplines that includes Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers
  • Facilitate and oversee agile ceremonies and planning reviews and help establish internal best practices
  • Continually look for ways to improve collaboration and optimize team processes by utilizing innovative problem-solving and frameworks
  • Track workflow efficiency, projects delivery dates, KPIs, resource allocation, and other metrics
  • Continuously evaluate initiatives to ensure they are adhering to budgets, achieving goals, and prioritizing team execution while upholding company values
  • Develop and manage regular cadence operating calendar and project plans, including regular reviews of products and key programs and progress against OKRs
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties for the flawless execution of projects
  • Collaborate across the organization to define project scope, objectives, and feasibility
  • Ensure 24/7 support is provided across our suite of products and services that includes creating and owning the standard operating procedures that are relevant to our products
  • Ensure systems and tools are documented and that cross-departmental staff is trained
  • Hire, manage, and grow a team of project managers, support analysts, scrum masters, agile coaches, and associated trades
  • Help embed the voice of the customer into product decisions by working closely with our customer experience team
  • Identify and mitigate risks to minimize project uncertainty
  • Set deadlines, prioritize tasks, and assign team members to various deliverables
  • Motivate team members to participate in a collaborative environment
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder communications
  • Set and continually manage expectations across the teams and organization


You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

  • 7+ years of previous project management experience in an agile software engineering team
  • Experience with successfully launching digital products across complex platform environments
  • Previous experience with Scrum, Kanban, or other Agile product development methodologies; and opinions about which is best in various situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract top talent and build high performing teams
  • Ability to clearly communicate and lead discussions around strategy, process, timelines, and data
  • Technical understanding of web and mobile technical architecture and publishing tools (Content Management Systems)
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Strong familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Airtable, etc.
  • Ability to juggle multiple goals and deadlines in the context of the big picture
  • Experience with leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to organize and motivate large cross-functional teams managing conflicting interests to drive progress towards solutions
  • Ability to recognize when to take a 'roll up your sleeves' or lead by example approach to working through solutions
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
  • Ability to use data to drive decisions

What about the office?
This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. At this time, our office remains closed but it is our goal to open as soon as it can be done safely. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in NYC and will provide updates to our employees as soon as we have them available.
We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations and will also require additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
