Executive Assistant (NYC)
Databases are the beating heart of every business in the world.
Cockroach Labs is the team behind CockroachDB, an open source, distributed SQL database. We aim to build infrastructure that keeps pace with the world, so developers can focus on what matters most: building the best products. Join us on our mission to Make Data Easy. Are you ready to aim high and build to last?
About the Role
Cockroach Labs is growing quickly, and we're looking for an experienced Executive Assistant to join the team. As an Executive Assistant, you are the backbone of the team's business operations and activities. You anticipate the needs of your managers and team members and help them stay focused on their projects by resolving operational and administrative issues before they arise. In addition to being organized and analytical, you possess the strong business judgment and communication skills needed to interact with a variety of people and job functions both internally and externally.
You Will
- Perform an extensive array of administrative tasks (manage calendars, book travel, and schedule facilities and equipment) for our CEO, Chief People Officer & Chief Product Officer.
- Build efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations, and help define new operational strategies.
- Coordinate events including quarterly Board of Directors meetings, off-sites, and conference speaking engagements, candidate scheduling as well as any associated travel itineraries/accommodations and venue reservations.
- Liaise with executives, internal teams, and external business contacts to establish seamless communication, including but not limited to coordinating with counterparts of external teams and including short bios on external participants at upcoming meetings.
- Handle a full spectrum of personal details and needs while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
- Coordinate and oversee complex domestic and international travel arrangements, including all necessary documentation.
- Support leadership with ad-hoc personal tasks as needed.
You Have
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of administrative coordination or support experience, specifically with scheduling, planning and travel logistics.
- A resourceful and intuitive approach to problem-solving.
- The ability to organize projects and multi-task responsibilities, working independently and across a diverse range of people and job functions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to various personalities.
- A strong sense of urgency and a passion for getting results.
- The expectation of complete confidentiality on all business matters.
The Team
Spencer Kimball - Co-founder & CEO
Spencer strives to maintain a delicate balance between his love for programming distributed systems and the excitement of helping the company grow smoothly. He first cut his teeth on databases during the dot com heyday, and had a front row seat at Google for a decade’s worth of their evolution. His best part of leaving work is stepping out into the brilliant and always exciting life of Manhattan with his daughter and Carl (his dog).
Lindsay Grenawalt - Chief People Officer
Lindsay focuses on attracting, developing, and retaining the best possible talent for Cockroach Labs. She was first exposed to the world of startups at Google Ventures then moving to Yext as the VP of People Operations, where she was responsible for growing the company from 150 to over 400 employees across the United States, the Netherlands, and the UK. When she is not at work, you can find her exploring the culinary delights of New York and attempting to recreate them at home.
Nate Stewart - Chief Product Officer
Nate is responsible for the overall product strategy and the activities we take to guide Cockroach Labs to product-market-fit. As a former engineer, Nate has seen how the challenges of working with data in unreliable, distributed environments often distract developers from building great things. Nate joined Cockroach Labs to help companies avoid that pain once and for all. When he’s not at work, Nate can be found spending time with his family, reading a book from his Goodreads queue, or trying to remove the rust from his tennis game.
