About Common

Common designs, creates, and operates all-inclusive homes, bringing community, convenience, and flexibility to housing. Common members know their neighbors, have more free time, and the opportunity to transfer to any Common home across the country. Since launching in October 2015, Common has opened more than a dozen homes across New York, San Francisco, Oakland, Washington D.C., and Chicago.

It’s an exciting time to be part of Common’s team. We challenge ourselves every day to not just think about ways to make city living better, but to activate on those ideas in meaningful ways. Our team is comprised of real estate professionals, designers, engineers, salespeople, marketers, client service representatives, and so much more. We work collaboratively, value self-startership, and embrace a “whatever it takes” mentality to ensuring our work is done and done well.

Common was founded by General Assembly co-founder Brad Hargreaves and has raised over $65MM in venture funding.

Common is hiring a Field Technician to support the Design and Construction team in a wide range of roles across all aspects of the home opening process. Roles will range from physical installation and labor on site, to inspections and quality control. From working with our Interior Designers, suppliers, warehouse and logistics managers, to performing manual labor on site during home move in, our Field Technicians are responsible for safely and efficiently closing out tasks related to preparing our new homes for our members.

About the Role

Common provides convenience and community in all of our homes. By furnishing our homes from the bed and sofa, through to the silverware, blender and TV, our members are able to move in without the typical pain points of the “moving process”. We also recognize that in shared living there is the dilemma of how to decorate, and “who takes what” when they leave. By furnishing our homes we create beautiful spaces for our members to enjoy and remove many of the things that roommates can fight over. It is the Field Technician’s responsibility (in hand with the Project Coordinator) to ensure that, on opening day, our homes deliver on this promise, and that the home is ready for our members when they move in.

Our Field Technicians have strong attention to detail, an affinity for organization, as well as a sincere passion and care for the end member experience. This role requires someone who has the ability to perform manual labor tasks, the ability to keep track of many items at once, is proactive, and an excellent communicator. Field Technicians are involved in all aspects of the move in, from ensuring that movers place furniture correctly, to problem solving on the spot and working with team members to quality check the home. As we continue to expand nationally, this role will also involve travel, possibly out of state or for extended periods. All equipment required for the role will be provided by Common.
