ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE

 

theSkimm is looking for an entrepreneurial leader to join our team as the General Manager of Skimm Money, our finance vertical. Skimm Money is our company’s newest line of business focused on personal financial management and serving our core demographic of millennial women. The vertical will launch in March 2020 and will address the end-to-end personal finance management needs of our audience, including a consumer app, access to financial coaches, a private community, content, events and more. This role reports into the Chief Product Officer.

You’ll come with a track record of building teams and systems tied directly to the top and bottom line results of the organization, ideally with experience discovering and designing business solutions and working cross-functionally across a fast-growing business.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • In collaboration with the Executive Team, spearhead the evolution of the Skimm Money strategy, including planning for the future of the vertical and creating and executing initiatives to achieve them

  • Manage a team covering Marketing, Product, Content and Engineering to ensure the business executes effectively against its deliverables
  • Manage the roadmap for the Skimm Money business
  • Build out and directly lead the day-to-day operations of of Skimm Money
  • Ensure the Skimm Money team works collaboratively and seamlessly with cross-functional teams and stakeholders such as  Sales, Finance, Communications and Operations
  • Provide strategic direction to owned functions as well as all other business stakeholders with the aim of driving growth and a path to profitability
  • Manage the Skimm Money P&L - headcount, cost management, revenue goals and proactively evaluate risks and opportunities for the business

  • Work with an agile mindset and willingness to experiment and test how pulling different levers will impact the business

  • Motivate and leverage existing and new staff to continually up-level their results, expectations, and stretch for increasingly higher levels of impact across all core operational and business metrics

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 8+ years of experience, with experience owning a P&L – experience in consulting, finance, strategy, business development or operations is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with hands-on management of functions that include combinations of the following: operations, business analytics, marketing, customer loyalty and retention, and project management
  • Demonstrated experience working with B2C products and collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering teams
  • Ability to be creative and execute
  • Early-stage startup experience is a plus
  • Unparalleled business judgement and critical thinking skills with the ability to use data to quickly establish highest value priorities and develop a strategy to pursue them
  • High energy and motivational leadership driven by personal influence and example with direct staff, peers, and senior leaders across all company functions
  • Experience working closely and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders in an ever-changing, rapid growth environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical and execution background – ability to identify, quantify, and implement growth opportunities and business management practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
