Head of Compliance
Alt is on a mission to make investing in alternative assets as easy as investing in stocks. We are redefining alternative assets to include new asset classes that have historically been relegated to the territory of hobbyists and collectors, rather than investors. With Alt, we're turning sports cards – and eventually watches, sneakers, and art – into investable assets.
Our investors include VCs such as 776, First Round Capital, BoxGroup, SV Angel as well as notable angels such as the founders of Stripe, Blackrock and Coinbase. Some professional athletes, including Kevin Durant, Larry Fitzgerald, and Tobias Harris all across different sports have also invested in Alt.
The impact you will make:
As the Head of Compliance you are responsible to manage our end-to-end payments flow with our banking partner and Plaid. When users transact on Alt they do so using a pre-funded "wallet." Alt acts as the clearinghouse for all sports cards bought and sold, and the funds are managed via an FBO account with our bank. The Head of Compliance will need to work closely with our partners to ensure we are following best practices to mitigate risk while also providing an amazing customer experience. In this role you will also function as the company's lead to educate the team on acting compliantly in other aspects beyond payments.
The Head of Compliance role spans multiple products. You will need to manage our KYC and AML processes for our payments flow as well as our lending products. Once customers are onboarded to our various products you will be responsible to create processes to alert us to fraud, and develop solutions for when certain events may occur.
As Alt continues to grow the Head of Compliance will be intimately involved in new product development and other initiatives necessary to keep our company safe. You will be seen as a thought leader who continues to optimize our offering to better reflect our innovative nature and our mission to create transparency and liquidity for alternative assets.
You will:
- Create compliance policies to work with our banking partner to support the end-to-end funds flow and the Alt "wallet" functionality
- Build compliance manual and lead compliance training for the team
- Develop KYC and AML processes to mitigate risk for our payments process, our lending products, and future products
- Liaison with our banking partners to provide the best customer experience, responsibly
- Work with independent auditors as needed to verify our practices are sound
You have:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 5-8 years of working experience in financial services
- Experience in compliance and risk mitigation, KYC, and AML best practices
- Self motivation with a deep affinity for problem solving, always challenging the status quo and never settling for how something ‘has always been done’
Bonus points if you have:
- Succinct knowledge of money service businesses/money transmitters and associated compliance and regulatory needs
- Prior experience at a large bank that services fintech companies
