Amplify is seeking an experienced educator who has designed and delivered science professional development for school and district-wide audiences. The Manager of Professional Development Design for Science will work with the Science Professional Development team to design professional development materials, provide feedback to team members who develop professional development materials, deliver professional development to educators as needed, and support the hiring, onboarding, and training of professional development facilitators. The ultimate goal of this work is to support high-quality science instruction in classrooms and the successful expansion of Amplify Science by designing rich and rigorous professional learning experiences and ensuring our facilitator team is prepared to deliver them.

Responsibilities of the Manager, Professional Development Design:

  • Develop and customize compelling in-person, remote, and online professional development workshops for teachers, instructional leaders, and district leaders to support strong implementation of Amplify Science.
  • Create engaging and easy-to-use materials, such as documents, videos, and presentations, that support educators' understanding of how to effectively teach with Amplify Science.
  • Support work to recruit, hire, mentor, and prepare incoming cohorts of Amplify Science PD facilitators, ensuring that facilitators have a solid base of program knowledge and implementation expertise as well as targeted preparation specific to individual PD engagements, when needed.
  • Design and deliver internal onboarding and ongoing training materials for PD facilitators.
  • Work collaboratively with, review, and provide feedback on the work of Science PD team members, including contractors, who develop Amplify Science PD content.
  • Assess impact and effectiveness of trainings by analyzing feedback from PD participants, PLSs, and internal colleagues.
  • Be openly receptive to upward, downward, and peer feedback -- you act on feedback and continue to get better over time.
  • Incorporate feedback to continuously strengthen session content and the scaffolds and supports for trainers within the session materials in order to ensure high-quality delivery at scale.
  • Collaborate with the Content and Product teams to understand upcoming program updates and releases and incorporate them into training programs and assets.
  • When needed, collaborate with external partners, including the Lawrence Hall of Science, on PD development and events.
  • Ensure professional development projects are tracked in project plans and are completed on time, on budget, and with delighted partners.
  • Clarify and communicate project objectives and success criteria to internal and external stakeholders, as well as track and communicate project status, issues, risks, and decisions.
  • Develop PD collateral to support internal and external understanding of Amplify Science's PD offerings.
  • Directly facilitate professional development workshops to educators as business needs arise.
  • Travel on-site to deliver in-person training, conduct observations and meet with key stakeholders, when needed.


Basic Qualifications of the Manager, Professional Development Design:

  • 3 or more years of K-8 science classroom teaching. Strong preference for experience teaching or coaching Amplify Science.
  • 2 or more years of experience (at scale) designing and facilitating science professional development sessions for K-8 educators both in-person and online that improve science outcomes for students and support teachers with adopting new practices
  • Demonstrated proficiency with impactful technology integration in professional development and in the classroom
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology-based productivity and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Office, Google Applications, Zoom, etc. to manage and collaborate on design work
  • Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice
  • Able to travel for onsite and in-person meetings; this is not expected to exceed 20% of the time.**
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience


Preferred Qualifications of the Manager, Professional Development Design:

  • Experience teaching with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or coaching teachers teaching the NGSS
  • Experience teaching and/or supporting implementation of Amplify Science
  • Demonstrated expertise with supporting multilingual learners and Special Education students
  • Experience creating and editing video
  • Experience using Adobe Cloud Suite (Acrobat, inDesign)
  • Master's Degree of Education
  • Spanish language proficiency
