At Check, the Payroll Compliance QA team is responsible for making sure that our product and services adhere to federal, state, and local tax agency regulations as they pertain to the payment of employee wages and taxes paid on behalf of the employer. It is the responsibility of the team to work cross functionally with operations, product, and engineering. In this role, you will validate changes that impact how Check calculates and remits taxes along with the necessary forms used to document various payroll and tax transactions.

We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative payroll individual to join our team and work closely with our Head of Payroll Compliance.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with our Tax Operations team to execute periodic testing
  • Create and apply testing and validation processes for new taxes
  • Perform routine audits and quality tests against the API
  • Anticipate system testing needs based on regulatory and compliance trends
  • Document areas for improvement and work across teams to remediate identified issues
  • Create an internal audit process based upon a granular understanding of our core product and added products and features
  • Take a proactive approach to product development that helps our product and engineering teams to solve issues before the testing stage
  • Assist the compliance team with achieving its priorities, including by taking on responsibilities outside of traditional QA

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:

  • Previous experience in payroll, tax, or similar field
  • Solid knowledge of relevant payroll regulatory and compliance standards
  • Excellent data collection and analysis skills
  • Experience conducting the audit function at a SaaS provider or API-driven company
  • Working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of quality assurance and auditing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide status updates to key stakeholders
  • Capable of managing several projects at once in a fast-moving environment
  • Eager to "roll up your sleeves" and get things done
