As a Senior Firmware Engineer you will be an integral part of a stellar engineering team responsible for building Latch's smart access control products.

You will be focussed on firmware development for Latch devices, writing low level device drivers, doing board bring and delivering high quality, robust firmware to production.

You will work within highly cross-functional feature teams and collaborate closely with mobile, backend and hardware engineers.

Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for activities involved in the research and development of electrical lock sets and other access control products
  • Architect, implement, and maintain complex firmware designs
  • Bring up of boards and rapid debug proof of concept prototypes
  • Design and Implement API’s used between IOT hardware and cloud services over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ZigBee 3.0
  • Specify and document communication protocols, system states, and FW/SW feature requirements with the SW team
  • Lead technical discussions within design and product teams to make decisions on performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements.
  • Serve as expert in developing firmware on Cortex M3 and M5 Arm Micro Controllers
  • Interface with micro controllers to sensors such as Cap Touch, Camera, Atmel Crypto Chip and 13.56 MHZ NFC
  • Participate in product design, development, verification, troubleshooting, and delivery of high quality embedded firmware
  • Write product specifications and release documentation for all phases of product development from definition and design through implementation including: firmware and/or unit testing; designing; test automation; debugging; reliability; and performance analysis.
  • Perform power consumption analysis and firmware development for low power battery operation
  • Deliver resilient, robust and durable designs
  • Work independently on development tasks including design, development, debugging, documentation and validation


Job Requirements:

  • Applicant must have at least 1 year of experience developing firmware using C and C++ methodologies
  • Applicant must have a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Must have ability to define power management approaches and develop firmware for low power battery options
  • Must have experience with compliance, manufacturing process, reliability and contract manufacturers
  • Must have experience with GNU ARM Toolchain (GCC, GDB, and MAKE/CMAKE); SPI; I2c; 2.4 GHZ ultra-low power wireless SOC (e.g. NORDIC or TI); RS232; and Cortex M3 and M5 arm micro controllers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typical networking stack and architectural principles including: ETHERNET, TCP/IP Suite, MQTT and Amazon Web Services
  • Must also have ability to work independently on development tasks including design, development, debugging, documentation and validation
  • 40 hours per week. M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm. Must have proof of legal authorization to work in the US
