About Headway
Headway is building a new mental healthcare system, rewired for access and affordability.
We all know someone that has struggled with mental health - 1 in 4 people have a treatable mental health condition - but the overwhelming majority don’t get the care they need. The primary reason is cost - seventy percent of therapists don’t accept insurance, meaning paying for therapy is usually very, very expensive.
Headway is building the first national, virtual network of therapists who accept insurance, helping providers to expand their practices, and individuals to finally find a therapist they can afford. And we’re doing it all through software.
We launched in April of 2019 and are already powering thousands of therapy appointments every single day. To scale our mission, we’ve raised funding from the world’s preeminent VCs (backers of Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Uber, Oscar) as well as the nation’s most innovative healthcare entrepreneurs (founders of One Medical, Flatiron Health, and Clover Health).
We believe a team's strength is in its people. Headway is solving a national problem of affordability, and we know this cannot be achieved without a team that reflects the diversity of this problem - across race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and experience.

The Role
Creative, thoughtful, and easy-to-use products have engendered love from Headway’s providers, patients, and payers from day one. As we scale our mission across the United States, we have profound opportunities to build upon this love in new and exciting ways, all with the aimof rewiring mental healthcare from the inside out, and creating access to affordable care where it could not have existed before. As the Director of Product Management, and our first Product hire, you will be responsible for setting the Headway product vision that aligns with our company strategy and objectives, and defining key metrics to determine how we are tracking towards that vision. You will also be building and managing a team of Product Managers to help execute on that vision. Headway is made up of a suite of products with a variety of users -- mental healthcare providers, patients, health systems, and even ourselves. You will work with every team at Headway -- from Operations to Engineering -- to understand how all of these products can fit together to form a unified Headway experience. As our first Product hire, you will also find yourself rolling up your sleeves and diving into project level product management while we build out our product team.
You'll be a great fit if...
- You have 6+ years of experience building beautiful software products that engender love from your users (bonus if SaaS and/or enterprise software products in the healthcare space)
- You have experience managing and building teams of Product Managers
- You are analytical, experimental, and creative. You know when to use data, but you also have the vision and intuition to take leaps when data is not availableYou are empathetic: you are eager to see the world from your users’ perspective
- You are scrappy: you are excited to roll up your sleeves, solve problems without precedent, and blaze a trail for those that will follow you.
- You are always thinking more than one step ahead. You can create a strategic product vision that aligns with company strategy. You can communicate this vision clearly such that everyone knows how what they are working on is helping us achieve the vision.
- You're energized by ambiguity: You are excited by the idea that the roadmap may change, because you will help build the roadmap. You are motivated by the opportunity to build the things that will help us scale, and you will ruthlessly prioritize the things that matter most
- You are motivated by our mission. We are working to solve the biggest problems in mental health care today (access and affordability). We have already helped thousands of people get care they couldn’t have otherwise afforded today and we’ll help millions tomorrow
Headway is currently remote, and will be for the foreseeable future. However, once it is deemed safe to do so, we will be returning to our office in NYC.
