1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the vast majority do not get the care they need. The primary reason is cost: the majority of therapists do not accept insurance, meaning paying for therapy is prohibitively expensive for prospective patients. This is where we got our start – Headway has built the first software-enabled network of therapists who accept health insurance, making it easy for therapists to grow their practices, and possible for patients to find quality care they can afford. 

We launched in April of 2019 and are now powering 300,000+ appointments per month. To scale our vision, we’ve raised over $100 million in funding from a16z, Thrive, Accel, and Google Ventures.

About The Role

Headway connects patients with high-quality providers, building a new mental healthcare system everyone can access. As we scale our mission and our provider network, we’re looking for a leader for the product team that is most responsible for the core of Headway’s business.

As the GPM of our Insurance Platform team, you will lead the teams making some of the hardest problems in healthcare (price transparency, patient billing, remittance) appear easy for patients, providers, and partner teams at Headway. You will drive the core platform of our business and own some of the most important  KPIs at the company. 

If you’re excited about building a platform to untangle the messiest problems in healthcare, balancing needs from all three sides of a complex marketplace, and working extremely closely with teammates from across the entire company as well as our insurance and data partners, this is the right role for you.

What you’ll do at Headway

  • You will partner and build the product platform and APIs used by nearly every customer-facing team, and have broad cross-functional and external partner relationships. 
  • Develop a vision, strategy, and roadmap for the core platform team most responsible for Headway’s fundamental product promise: that we make the messy world of insurance and billing simple.
  • Build and mentor a team of PMs who are obsessed with building highly business- and privacy-sensitive platforms on tight timelines.
  • Drive major company-wide initiatives that stretch beyond product, partnering with teams as diverse as Finance and Clinical Strategy.
  • Work highly collaboratively with operations teams, with whom your work will depend on tight feedback loops. 

You’ll be great for this role if you:

  • You have 8+ years of relevant product experience working on high-growth and at-scale product. Preferably, most of this experience is on a platform or infrastructure area.
  • You have 2+ years of experience as a people manager and have built and mentored teams of PMs before. 
  • You love navigating through ambiguity in brand new territory on problems that affect multiple different types of users
  • You break through walls to drive outcomes - you can quickly unblock yourself and are biased toward action.
  • You know how to understand data and leverage it (without getting stuck in analysis paralysis). 
  • Working deeply with others energizes you! You pride yourself on crisp and concise communication.
