HOMER is currently seeking an experienced Head of Product to join our team in New York. This is a unique opportunity to lead the Product team and be a key member of the Executive Team.

HOMER has proven product/market fit with our reading apps and is looking for a seasoned Product Executive to expand our portfolio of products and scale our team to achieve the next phase of HOMER’s growth. This role will manage and grow a team of product managers, designers, artists and animators, and learning experts to execute HOMER’s product vision.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable in a high-growth startup environment and will roll up their sleeves to do whatever is necessary to push the company forward while motivating and leading a team. You should have experience balancing the need for process with promoting autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the vision of the product and own the roadmap according to the high level strategy of HOMER Build and inspire strong cross-functional teams to deliver excellent results
  • Keep the team focused on the customer and the market; work closely with engineering to make time/feature tradeoffs quickly
  • Ensure alignment with C-Level stakeholders spanning multiple functions (customer success, user experience, corporate development, sales and marketing, revenue)  
  • Enable collaboration across design, engineering, membership experience, marketing and partnerships, and platform teams to align them on product features, user experience, visual design, and roadmap
  • Translate product roadmap into clear engineering deliverables for the product development team (by sprint, quarter, fiscal year) to maximize the effectiveness of the software development cycle. Work with CTO and engineering leads  to execute on vision
  • Business judgment: Understands consumer consumer subscription business models and appropriately filters ideas for feasibility/risk/return. Understands how to make trade-offs between speed and quality, and shows ability to independently drive consensus on high-impact product decisions

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in product leadership, with previously a significant role in a consumer subscription business, with a proven track record of conceptualizing, designing and releasing great consumer products with market appeal
  • Prior experience at the VP of Product-level or comparable executive role building and leading high-performance teams
  • Experience with implementing Agile scrum development and lean startup principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work with company leadership and executives to effectively define the product and portfolio strategy
  • Ability to assess market segments, products, vendors, and complex technologies for fit against Homer’s financial targets, strategic initiatives, and product goals
  • Experience growing a company from Series B to exit.  We are looking for someone who can redefine the efficient and scalable processes and systems and lead the product through company growth of 60 to 200 people
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate and engage others in product vision

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee the strategy and planning for the entire product lifecycle including gathering and prioritizing product requirements, determining the product roadmap, and setting strategic priorities.  Provide guidance through major shifts in technology, direction, and business goals
  • Define and implement the product vision for a one-of-a-kind digital program for early childhood
  • Lead a product development team of product designers, software developers and UI/UX specialists who will build and optimize products, position and launch them successfully to the market, and provide analytics and reporting to show their efficacy
  • Spearhead market validation and testing activities, including user testing and feedback collection in both the consumer and education channels. Work with all customer-facing organizations to plan and prioritize features and feature requests. No one should understand our customers and competitive landscape better than you
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop technical requirements and to define, build and maintain products critical to growth, engagement and retention
  • Design product specifications and use cases for features and launches and oversee translation into functional deliverables and project plans
  • Implement the best practices, processes and systems required to build out a product development function capable of releasing a continuous stream of new products
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape and evaluate market trends to inform product development better
  • Partner with Marketing to develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies and plans for impactful product launches

  • Data-driven and strong knowledge of analytics tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (tech and non-tech)
  • A desire to influence the trajectory of early education by creating innovative products that will have a measurable impact on the way kids, parents and educators develop early domain, creative, and social-emotional skills
