Edquity is a one-stop college financial success and emergency aid platform for students, ensuring all students have the financial means to get to college graduation. This is accomplished via two products, Edquity Plan and Edquity for College, which collectively support students through college financial matching, planning, financial aid award evaluation, and finally cash-flow management and emergency resource referral.

Edquity has raised over $1.1M to date and has worked with some of the leading colleges and districts in the country, including LaGuardia Community College, Nevada State College, the NYC DOE, and DC Public Schools. Our investors are very mission aligned and include the Lumina Foundation. We've also received prize capital of $600k+ from partners that include CFSI, The Gates Foundation, and The New Schools Venture Fund.

THE ROLE:

Edquity seeks an experienced Product Designer who is passionate about financial capability, equity in higher education, college graduation for low and middle-income students, and social mobility generally.

The Product Designer will be primarily responsible for designing new features and functionality that comprise Edquity’s suite of college financial planning and success tools. The Product Designer will work closely with the product manager, multi-disciplinary design team, and engineering team to grow strategic concepts through design exploration, ideation and user validation.
 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Presenting design solutions to stakeholders and company executives, defending design decisions and incorporating feedback into the design cycle
  • Design interaction models, wireframes and mockups that promote ease of use and optimize how users interact with our products
  • Design flows and experiences that are incredibly simple and elegant
  • Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product and executive teams
  • Give and solicit feedback from other designers in order to continually raise our bar for quality
  • Partner with Product Manager, engineers, and other designers to oversee the user experience of a product from conception until launch
  • Immersing yourself in required substance as it pertains to personal finance, basic needs insecurity, and the college affordability landscape

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or relevant experience in a full-cycle product design environment
  • 3+ years of increasing responsibility in product design within a high paced, agile software-as-a-service environments, preferably in the B2C space including daily interactions with Product Managers and Engineers.
  • Proven expertise turning complex business problems into simple and engaging products
  • Strong command of interaction design and information architecture with a mind for simplicity of design
  • Capable of communicating and prototyping interactions rapidly at all levels of resolution
  • A portfolio that showcases your work, provides detail of your role on projects and shows examples of functional designs that you have developed from requirements through design delivery
  • Proactive, self-directed mentality with a hunger to learn and a willingness to take on responsibilities sometimes outside of one’s “lane”

 

STRONGLY PREFERRED:

  • Startup experience
  • Current residence in or willingness to relocate to New York

 

PREFERRED:

  • A background in financial services or education
  • Experience working with personal finance products
  • Understanding of social work and/or safety net supports of low-income individuals
