Casper is looking for a Product Developer focusing in the Mattress product category to join our team in New York.  This role is responsible for the development of high-quality and innovative Mattresses; with knowledge in product and textile construction, performance, manufacturing and finish techniques.  The Product Developer of Mattresses will report into the Director of Product Development and will work closely with our Product Merchandising, Design, Engineering, Packaging and Operations teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of our seasonal products.

When you’re not catching zzz’s, this is what you’ll do

  • Facilitate the overall management of multiple mattress development projects, collaborating and leading in communication with cross functional team members and international manufacturing partners 
  • Lead prototype reviews with project stakeholders and senior leadership.  Document prototypes with image decks and comprehensive detailed call-outs for suppliers; working with designers and engineers to direct technical drawing updates and bill of materials as needed
  • Create development calendars and ensure key milestones are met for on-time launches
  • Help lead weekly internal team meetings to connect on status updates, problem solving, and align on next steps
  • Track and communicate cost and margin calculation updates, with an understanding for cost changes and general cost engineering.  Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficient manufacturing that meet quality expectations
  • Analyze the feasibility of new product briefs from a cost, sourcing, and ease of manufacturing point of view.  
  • Work closely with packaging engineers to prototype product packaging  
  • Assist in establishing processes and organizational systems for efficiency with category growth
  • New material and manufacturing technique research to support product innovation initiatives

Our dream candidate is...

  • Formal education related to product design and/or development preferred, with a minimum 5 years of experience specific to mattress and foam or soft furniture development; and a demonstrated ability to bring products to market
  • Knowledge of mattress construction, materials, and manufacturing processes with an eye on meeting function and end use requirements.  Developing with the higher goal to meet design and quality intent and business needs 
  • Detailed and efficient with a sense of urgency in managing time and ownership of deliverables.  Capable of handling multiple seasons in development; and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of working independently with high success.  Ability to think strategically, problem solve, and roll with change
  • Excellent written, visual and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to fully understand and check technical drawings for accuracy and clarity
  • Knowledge of category specific product and transit testing; and legal compliance
  • Influential in building positive collaborative partnerships with cross functional teams and manufacturers
  • Fluent in Google Workspace, Excel, InDesign and/or Power Point / ability to quickly learn and adapt to new applications
