Figma is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to make design accessible to all. Born on the Web, Figma helps entire product teams brainstorm, create, test, and ship better designs, together. From great products to long-lasting companies, we believe that nothing great is made alone—come make with us!

The Figma Research team is looking for a researcher to support the organizational prioritization of strategic market opportunities — high-level opportunities that would play out on a multi-year timeline. Your research might help us envision ways to better communicate the value of our platform, segment our current market, integrate emerging technologies, or evaluate adjacent markets. There is plenty of space here for creative, impactful research that would help Figma prioritize long-term investments.

The ideal candidate has experience developing business-level strategy and vision in close collaboration with multiple other functions, from Finance to Design and from Partnerships to Product. We’re looking for someone who has experience using research findings to make recommendations for both the short- and long-term.

The ideal candidate knows how to prioritize their work around its impact to critical decisions. There are many competing opportunities for additional research. You should advise the leadership team on whether it’s time to be scrappy and move the conversation forward without additional research. Conversely, you should also be willing to make an argument for the questions that deserve your time and attention the most.

This role will start as an independent contributor(IC), but there is opportunity to mature this practice and hire/manage additional team members.

This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the continental United States.

What you'll do at Figma:

  • Workshop across the organization to identify strategic questions and proactively plan your research roadmap
  • Lead research projects from start to finish
  • Use creative research approaches with the appropriate level of rigor for the need
  • Deliver actionable findings and recommendations
  • Collaborate on rich descriptions of opportunities for Figma’s future that become part of the broader organization’s shared knowledge
  • Analyze third-party research and be an internal expert on market trends in the practice of design

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have 6+ years conducting research and strategy in a fast-paced product development environment
  • Have specific examples of meaningful business-level impact as the result of your research
  • Conduct research of many different types, depending on the research question, and don’t attempt to solve every problem with the same approach
  • Can work mixed methods across qualitative and quantitative methodological boundaries
  • Have a strong portfolio of research deliverables(e.g. workshops, slides, reports, posters) with an emphasis on great visuals and narrative
  • Approach collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders thoughtfully and creatively
  • Reflect and improve on your skills and approaches over time

  • At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

About Figma

Dylan Field and Evan Wallace co-founded Figma in 2012 with the vision of building tools for designers in the browser. Their goal was to create the first design tool that combined the accessibility of the Web with the functionality of a native app. Today Figma is a platform with tools and spaces to support the entire product development process—idea to design to build—and has simplified collaboration for companies like Microsoft, Uber, and The New York Times to name a few.

At Figma, we celebrate and support our differences. We know employing a team rich in diverse backgrounds, experiences, and opinions allows our employees, products, and community to flourish. Figma is an equal opportunity workplace—we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national orientation, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status.
