Senior Product Manager

BioLite is seeking an experienced and engaged Sr. Product Manager to help identify and execute on our next generation of product opportunities. This role is inherently cross-functional and will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Design to define product assortments and feature sets that best address market needs and provide the highest customer value.

 

TITLE: Senior Product Manager
HOURS: Full-time

LOCATION: Brooklyn, New York

REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering

COMPENSATION: Salary is competitive with other early-stage companies, including benefits, bonus plan, and equity stock options.

BioLite is a for-profit social enterprise that develops, manufactures and markets distributed energy solutions for off-grid communities around the world. Our business serves two distinct markets: emerging-market families living in energy poverty, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking off-grid cooking, charging and lighting products.

As a product manager at BioLite you’ll solve challenging and interesting problems, work with an exceptional team, take ideas from concept through to large-scale production, and make a real positive impact on things that matter.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Market Analysis

  • Own continuous evaluation of market conditions and trends
  • Formulate market projections and identify developing opportunities
  • Develop business plans for new product and product line offerings by market
  • Define critical and pervasive product requirements for targeted market segments
  • Identify, create, maintain, and leverage key relationships in target markets

Competitor Research

  • Lead competitive research and benchmarking activities. Responsible for cataloging and communicating competitor product lines, performance specification, price points, channels, and new launches
  • Identify competitive offerings and assess their strength and weaknesses
     

Product Requirements

  • Drive market-facing product requirements and minimum viable feature sets/price points
  • Coordinate across Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to build differentiated product specifications that generate the most value for our customer
  • Evaluate the relative importance of key product features, translate complex set of possibilities into simple, compelling value propositions for the customer
  • Maintain vigilance throughout the development cycle to ensure customer value message is intact
     

Produce Line Narrative and Future Pipeline

  • Build comprehensive product family and line structures
  • Present future product pipeline, build stakeholder consensus, and secure executive support
  • Work with Design to ensure cohesiveness within and across all BioLite product families
  • Plan generational updates and new line launches

 

Go-to Market Strategy

  • Own coordination across product, ops, sales, and marketing to build flawless go-to-market plans
  • Build comprehensive launch strategies that consider channel mix, launch season, sampling plan, on-line and in-store marketing assets, and after-launch support

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years experience in consumer hardware, with 3+ years experience in Product Management
  • BS or higher Degree in Business, Engineering, Design, or equivalent
  • Understanding of direct to consumer and wholesale to retail business models, typical margins, taxes, and other selling costs
  • Strong understanding of current product technologies and market trends
  • Expert level Microsoft Excel or equivalent tool for analyzing and presenting data
  • Accountability, sense of humor, proactive nature and work ethic
  • Detail oriented and organized – able to manage multiple, conflicting priorities simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and able to seek out new opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage trade-offs, and evaluate opportunistic new ideas in internal and external partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication and compelling presentation skills
  • Proficiency in overall Microsoft/Google office tool suite (spreadsheets, presentations, documents)
