A Better opportunity:

Help us hack a thirteen trillion dollar industry by building a product that will allow more people than the status quo to own a home and build wealth rather than rent for life.

As a Senior Product Manager at Better, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation at Better. Straddling the line between high-level strategy and hands-on execution, you are well versed in product and business strategy; capable of communicating deftly about technical topics; and passionate about the importance of design in elevating customer experiences.

A home is the single biggest financial investment in a person’s life. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of re-thinking and disrupting this journey, in a world of real estate transactions that has been largely unchanged and is ripe for innovation. You will lead product strategy to build new offerings that add value to the homeownership value chain and expand Better’s value proposition. This role is inherently cross-functional with a high degree of visibility. You will work closely with engineering, design, data science, operations, sales, capital markets, and executive teams to bring features and products to market, and grow business opportunities.

Our team works on the most strategic area of the business. You will answer questions like:

  • Credit Decisioning: How do we build a sophisticated decisioning process that is faster, consumer focused and more accurate than anything else on the market. How do we save our customers time? How can machines read financial documents accurately?
  • Loan Origination: How do we originate loans faster?  How can we provide our consumers a streamlined closing process that is how they want it and when they want it? How can we make this antiquated process more reliable & provide more transparency at every step?
  • Revenue Management: What is the best price we can offer to our consumers? How do we leverage market factors to control pricing? How do we make it more dynamic and consumer centric? How does lifetime value impact pricing?
  • New businesses: How do build new businesses that add value to the homeownership value chain and expand Better’s value proposition? How can we disrupt the archaic world of Insurance and Appraisals? What synergies and capital advantage can we create using better vertical integration across businesses?

In this position, you will have the unique opportunity to build a world where customers receive the best price for their mortgage, and move through the mortgage process in days vs. weeks. Be a part of the team that is at the forefront of building the brain of the business that powers the entire lifecycle from pre application affordability to origination to selling in secondary markets.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Partner with and lead cross functional teams to set product vision and strategy
  • Define and socialize the roadmap of your product area through deep research and understanding of business goals
  • Bringing your solutions to market through ownership of the full product lifecycle: problem identification, solution design, spec, implementation and validation
  • Build products that empower our sales, operations, capital markets teams to make better decisions and add delight to our user experience
  • Make magic out of a complex and antiquated industry through intense focus on simplification
  • Go deep into both technical huddles with engineers and strategic discussions with executives
  • Manage competing priorities with consistency and transparency

About You:

You’ve worked for 6-8 years in a product management capacity at a technology-driven organization

  • You’re an analytical, metrics-driven thinker who is deeply empathetic and leads with a user-centered approach
  • You’re committed to collaboration and are able to work well with other business units to build iterative solutions that continuously deliver value
  • You have a proven track record of entering a new space and building expertise rapidly
  • Your spidey sense enables you to read between the lines and extrapolate ideas which turn into solutions
  • You are not afraid of getting your hands dirty and are equally comfortable balancing tactical and strategic investments
  • You are a firm believer in change and are a hustler
  • You have the mental resilience to know that we're just at the start of a long journey
  • You challenge archaic processes to make them better for consumers by removing friction (aka you live to make complex things simple)
  • You’re a systems thinker with an understanding that spans all levels of abstraction
  • You are comfortable in an ever-changing environment and have a passion for successfully navigating ambiguous problem areas
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and have a proven track record of building strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Bonus: You have worked on complex workflow based products, marketplace platforms, pricing, algorithmic bidding platforms, data centric supply chain products
  • Bonus: You have a computer science, engineering, operations research or equivalent technical background

The Better mission is rooted in values that drive us.

  • We do what’s in the best interest of the consumer, not ourselves
  • We have growth mindsets, not fixed ones
  • We believe that success lies in execution, not credentials
  • We act like owners, not just employees
  • We work to find answers on our own, not wait for them to be given to us
  • We optimize for mission, not ego

Our mission speaks for itself—we continue to outpace the industry at every turn. We’ve recently joined forces in partnership with Ally Bank, and our backers have helped build some of the most transformative tech and finance companies in history. Kleiner Perkins, Goldman Sachs, American Express, Citigroup, Activant Capital, Ally Bank, and others have invested in our vision for what homeownership can be.

An Insider's view of Better.com

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

It's not a secret that at a successful start-up, you have to work hard. That's why we have a very liberal work-from-home and unlimited PTO policy at Better. We know that people perform their best when they're happy and healthy, and emphasize that your individual needs being met are what helps meet the needs of our customers.

Sales

What does your typical day look like?

First, I glance at emails and my calendar. Then, I put in my free Seamless order (lunch and dinner is covered). I then use the first few hours of my day for deep thinking and problem solving where I sit with my notebook to brainstorm and sketch out ideas and initiatives. After lunch is when I have all of my meetings with teams in the US and India.

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I started as an Office Manager from Undergrad. A year later, I became a Customer Experience Associate for our Mortgage Operations team, and 3 months after that, I managed a team of 10 associates. Two years later, I found myself as a Customer Experience Strategist. I've had the opportunity to grow tremendously within and outside of my roles.
