Check is looking for a VP of Product to lead, develop, and execute on our product vision and strategy as we scale our API-first payroll platform. While payroll can be complicated, at Check our mission is to make paying people simple. Our Product team lies at the heart of doing that, continuously abstracting away the complexity of payroll to make it ever easier for platforms to build new payroll products.

We’re looking for a technical, entrepreneurial Product leader who has a passion for building developer-facing platforms. While we don’t expect you to know payroll coming in, we do expect you to be eager to learn. You’ll need to become an expert in both the emerging fintech landscape, and also the decades-old world of payroll.

As VP of Product, you will lead the development of all new products and features, along with overseeing the product and design teams. You’ll need to have a high level of empathy for our partners, and their customers, and a strong desire to deeply understand their needs. You’ll determine what we need to build and why we need to build it, then deliver those features to our partners.

The ideal candidate should be able to work closely with our Founders to understand the strategic vision for Check, then take it and make it their own. We’ll expect you to roll up your sleeves, and execute with a high degree of autonomy, to bring your plan to fruition. You will work closely with all parts of the company, including Engineering, Legal & Compliance, Solutions, Payroll Operations, Partner Success, Sales & Partnerships, and more.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with our Founders to evolve our product strategy as we continue to define the embedded payroll space
  • Lead Product & Design teams that consistently deliver on new products and features that enable our partners to more easily build robust payroll products
  • Synthesize partners needs and product vision into a product roadmap
  • Partner with Engineering, Compliance, Solutions, Partner Success, and other stakeholders to review outcomes and prioritize the product roadmap
  • Standardize internal process, including defining metrics, to be repeatable and provide transparency into performance and effectiveness

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates:

  • Have 8+ years of proven successful experience in Product Management, including managing a team of 5+ Product Managers and Designers
  • Possess a high level of empathy for our partners and customers and a strong desire to deeply understand their needs
  • Have a strong track record of successfully launching new products and features and an ability to assess product-market fit and prioritize initiatives based on the potential impact
  • Are technologically savvy and deeply opinionated about APIs
  • Have exceptional communication skills and the ability to rally organizational alignment
  • Will have worked in one or more of the following areas: fintech, payroll, API-first platforms, or B2B enterprise product management

Our team is distributed across the US, with hubs in New York City and San Francisco.

What is your vision for the company?

We believe in a future where business owners don’t have to think about payroll; it’ll simply be embedded in the platforms they already use to run their businesses. Check is building the infrastructure to power that future, and ultimately we believe we’ll enable thousands of new platforms, millions of businesses, and hundreds of millions of workers.

We pride ourselves on a set of values that includes both seeking understanding ("Check Yourself") and driving the change we want to see ("Be an Owner").
