The Role:

The Curriculum Specialist will support the blueprinting process for Newsela instructional content, and will help drive a consistent approach to the development of high-quality, diverse learning materials. In this role, you will contribute to the design of collections and courses, ensure alignment to state and national standards, and conduct research and analysis to ensure our curriculum is aligned to best practices. You’ll be deeply involved with planning for student and teacher interaction with standard-aligned, classroom-ready materials, in addition to the processes used to develop them. You will identify innovative strategies to meet curricular needs, as informed by the latest research in learning sciences and student engagement. You will also facilitate big picture planning, and serve as a liaison between our instructional content and assessment teams.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

You will get to help build the future of education, enhance how districts and teachers engage students, and develop approaches that allow educators and learners to engage seamlessly across products within Newsela. More specifically, this role will allow you to contribute to how Newsela is reshaping content products for districts, schools, and teachers nationwide. You will get to play a crucial role in the evolution of learning materials, helping to make our content more accessible and meaningful to students. You’ll have the opportunity to help us fine-tune our content production process as we scale, and your work will ultimately deliver quality, reliable methods of measuring student progress to millions of K-12 students and teachers nationwide.

Why We’ll Love You:

With 2+ years of K-12 teaching experience, preferably in both a distance learning and brick-and-mortar setting, you are knowledgeable of multiple learning frameworks, and bring a creative approach to finding opportunities for teacher and student engagement in repeatable, scalable ways that do not get stale. You have 2-3 years of demonstrated success developing curriculum (including course structural planning), and can easily craft and correlate instructional materials and assessments to multiple learning objectives. You possess a deep knowledge of cognitive rigor measures (e.g., Webb’s Depth of Knowledge and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy), as well as national standards (Common Core, NCSS C3 Framework, and/or Next Generation Science Standards) and their relationship to state standards. In addition to your education expertise, you’re a clear and process-oriented communicator who delivers thoughtful, scalable documentation and process improvements in your daily work.

About Newsela:

One of the fastest growing tech companies in K-12 education, Newsela was founded on the principle that while every child may have unique learning preferences, they all deserve a rich learning experience that ignites a love of learning. We built our platform based on learning science research to deliver the most engaging, authentic content to modernize how teaching happens in the classroom. Along with interactive assessments and tools, we provide teachers with digital content at five reading levels -- from +100 of the best sources -- that is relevant to the diverse backgrounds and interests of their students. Since we started in 2013, we’ve established a presence in 90% of U.S. K-12 schools and over 2.5M teachers and 37M students have registered with Newsela.
