What is the Position?

In this role, you will take ownership for the performance of our insurance operations processes and identify areas for potential improvement. You will drive the development of these process improvements and facilitate cross-functional support where needed. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring Oscar is adherent to all federal and state regulatory requirements related to the Insurance Operations team. You will play a large role in troubleshooting issues that arise by investigating the scope, cause and scale of the problem throughout our insurance operation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.

You’ll work alongside the rest of Insurance Operations and with the Compliance, Regulatory, Legal, Tech, Finance, Clinical, Customer Care, and Risk teams to get your work done. We’ll expect you to understand complexity, distill it, and explain it in simple, structured terms.

Deliverables: What you have to achieve

During the first 6 weeks you have:

  • Built an excellent understanding of the insurance operation systems and overall workflows.
  • Built a plan for how to document, streamline and improve the performance of insurance operation processes to meet immediate and long term performance goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Developed strong relationships across the broader Oscar team
  • Helped move the needle on one of the department’s core vitals.

During the first 6 months you have:

  • Become an internal resource to answer questions on operational performance adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Implemented multiple process improvements to support overall team performance goals.
  • Identified and prioritized opportunities for improvement throughout the insurance operation to facilitate operational excellence and a positive member experience

On an ongoing basis you will:

  • Monitor Insurance Operation workflows, reporting, and automations to maintain full regulatory compliance.
  • Support the Insurance Operations team to resolve regulator and member escalations through issue investigation, training, and technical tooling.
  • Design and build processes to support new markets and products.

What leads to success in this role?

Must-have qualities include:

  • Experience in the New Jersey healthcare market, with a preference for work supporting a health plan
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A technical bend and the ability to use tools to answer your own questions (e.g. SQL/Python)
  • Outstanding structured, systematic, and critical thinking
  • A passion for distilling complex concepts and workflows into clear, concise content
  • A desire to eliminate waste while driving operational excellence
  • A demonstration of deep analytical skills
  • A strong desire to follow through ideas until you implement them in reality

We think it will make a big (positive) difference if you have...

  • Knowledge and passion of healthcare and/or health insurance
  • Experience automating or scaling manual operational processes
  • Insatiable curiosity of subject matter and a desire to seek the truth
  • Knowledge management, training, or content development experience
  • A willingness to master the detail but also zoom out to understand the big picture
  • An enjoyment experimenting and iterating on ways to solve a problem
