About the Role

This role is responsible for leading the delivery of new software development and existing technology maintenance in collaboration with our entire program team.  You will report into the Technology Division and partner internally with the engineering, quality assurance, and technical design teams as well as externally with other Program Wing departments, including operations, field representatives, and academics.  Working as the Director of Technical Program Management, you will empower and align our scrum teams with prioritized business goals and define the paths to achieve them. Through your leadership, you will establish effective practices, processes, and tools, and engage and empower the intersection of the Technology Division with other departments to deliver these goals within specified constraints of time, scope, quality, and/or resources.

The Director of Technical Program Management will see their impact on a daily basis while working with a hard-working, fun team on the front lines of reinventing the classroom.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a team of Technical Program Managers and empower them to effectively coordinate the technical and operational aspects of delivering new features and bugfixes across their scrum teams
  • Define and lead the strategy for Technical Program Management at New Classrooms
  • Manage a framework for creating, monitoring, and performing impact analyses on project plans
  • Provide resourcing proposals, project prioritization recommendations, progress/status updates and risk/mitigation plans to the leadership team
  • Analyze and provide insight on ongoing staffing needs and propose/implement adjustments to team structure based on the pipeline of work, existing team members and their career interests, and outsourcing options
  • Manage/guide the technical aspects of
  • Major application cutovers and major feature launches (especially those that intersect multiple scrum teams) and how they intersect with other departments
  • Yearly school processes and how they intersect with other departments
  • Non-standard and/or outsourced software development projects
  • Contribute to cross-department leadership and executive-level meetings focused on Technology Division strategy
  • Facilitate cross-department coordination and communication of critical changes, maintenance, and improvements of our infrastructure, database, test environments, etc.
  • Implement cross-workstream, division-level, and org-wide process improvements
  • Guide and coach both the technology team and stakeholders to adopt agile/scrum practices tailored to the organization’s needs

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of leading enterprise software delivery across multiple scrum teams
  • 3+ years of project management / program management / scrum master experience
  • 3-5+ years working in an agile environment
  • Experience with multiple project management methodologies (waterfall, agile, lean, scrum, kanban, etc.) and proven track record of coaching blended adoption of them based on the realities of different workstreams
  • Top-notch communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide range of responsibilities and tasks that have competing priorities
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Natural tendency toward innovative and creative problem solving
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative fast-paced startup environment
  • Software engineering tech savvy such that the challenges of team members can be understood and troubleshot effectively
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence)
