Director of Business Development, BuzzFeed Media Brands
The role:
BuzzFeed is looking for a Director, Business Development to develop business and revenue strategy, and execute deals, for the editorial unit noted below. You have established relationships with potential partners, preferably in digital media, advertising, OTT, and linear TV and a previous track record of building and growing successful long-term partnerships. YYou have a knack for creating and maintaining complex financial models and analyses to project the revenue and cost implications of potential deals and their impact on the business unit and love digging into these details.
You will be based in NYC or LA and report to the Head of Business Development with a dotted line to the Chief Content Officer for BuzzFeed Media Brands (which includes Tasty, Nifty, As/Is, Goodfull, and Playfull).
You will:
- Work with the CCO of BuzzFeed Media Brands and the heads of each sub-brand to develop each business unit’s overall business and revenue strategy, spanning advertising, shows, commerce, subscription/membership, content production, and any other way you can think of to make money while staying true to the BuzzFeed’s editorial mission
- Support the CCO in negotiating and implementing partnerships specific to BuzzFeed Media Brands, including innovative content deals, editorial partnerships, vendor deals, and other strategic arrangements
- Work with BuzzFeed’s FP&A group to develop and maintain up-to-date revenue and cost models for each business unit, and to model new business opportunities
- Work with BuzzFeed’s Tech team and other internal stakeholders to develop and track business KPIs against Media Brands content strategies
- Work with the Media Brands team on launching new brands & verticals and assessing risks and opportunities for same
- Develop, together with other relevant stakeholders and partners, go-to-market strategies, distribution, and packaging for ongoing deals
- Develop and extend other strategic relationships for BuzzFeed Media Brands
- Act as the overall business resource for BuzzFeed Media Brands creators and staff
You have:
- A strong affinity for BuzzFeed and the work of BuzzFeed’s editorial teams, particularly Tasty and Nifty
- 5+ years in a partner-facing BD position
- Direct and relevant experience in monetization strategy for media organizations, particularly with lifestyle content and brands
- A solid contact list and set of relationships relevant to media monetization, particularly with potential monetization partners (tech platforms, TV networks, commerce partners, etc)
- Strong experience in spreadsheets and business modeling
- BS or higher degree in a relevant field, business background preferred
