Why are Merchants important to Birchbox?

Our Merchant teams are the force behind our mission at Birchbox- without them, we would not be able to give consumers a personalized way to discover and shop for new beauty products. As an integral member within the Merchandising team, the Merchants are our first touch point with brands, creating strategic sampling partnerships and merchandising compelling assortments of products for our shop. Overall, they grow partnerships with beauty brands and create a best in class assortment of products for our customers

Merchants at Birchbox will:

  • Manage a portfolio of brands independently within their division
  • Successfully pitch and launch new brands
  • Build robust product knowledge (category level, brand level, product level)
  • Have a strong understanding of the Birchbox value proposition and key metrics
  • Project Manage brand campaigns with Marketing, Social and Editorial teams
  • Create insightful analytics packages to share campaign results with our brand partners
  • Look for ways to improve processes and partnerships or do things more efficiently

A successful Merchant candidate has:

  • 5-7+ years of work experience
  • A love for beauty and an eye for great products
  • Experience in Merchandising, Buying, Sales, Planning or Business Development a plus
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills a must
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both brands and cross team members internally
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and excitement in an ever changing environment
  • A “no job too small” attitude
  • Experience with Mac OS, Power Point, Excel and Google Docs a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree
