We started Birchbox in 2010 to redefine the way consumers discover and shop for beauty and grooming. The company quickly grew from an exciting idea to a business that has materially shaped the beauty industry: we've activated an enormous group of underserved, untapped consumers, awakening their relationship with beauty by making the experience relevant, easy and fun. Why are Merchants important to Birchbox?

Our Merchant teams are the force behind our mission at Birchbox- without them, we would not be able to give consumers a personalized way to discover and shop for new beauty products. As an integral member within the Merchandising team, the Merchants are our first touch point with brands, creating strategic sampling partnerships and merchandising compelling assortments of products for our shop. Additionally, they are critical cross-team partners to key stakeholders across multiple teams at Birchbox (e.g. marketing, creative, planning, operations) and often wear many hats as both internal and external leaders. At the Senior Merchant level, they are also expected to develop and execute strategy, exhibit team leadership principles and manage a team of direct and indirect reports. Overall, the Merchandising team is responsible for growing partnerships with beauty brands, creating a best in class assortment of products for our customers, and help bring the physical experience online and offline to life.

Senior Merchants at Birchbox will:

• Manage a portfolio of high priority brands independently within their division
• Successfully pitch, negotiate, close and launch new brands
• Partner with head of team to set priorities, guide strategy, and design processes
• Be accountable for achieving team-wide and company-wide business results
• Own robust product knowledge (category level, brand level, product level)
• Have a strong understanding of the Birchbox value proposition and key metrics
• Create insightful analytics packages and case studies to share campaign results with our brand partners
• Project Manage brand campaigns with Marketing, Planning, Social & Content teams
• Work collaboratively and effectively with internal cross-functional partners across Birchbox teams
• Look for ways to improve processes and partnerships or do things more efficiently
• Drive innovation & produce results
• Manage a small team (1+ direct reports)

A successful Senior Merchant candidate has:

• Experience in the beauty industry a must
• 6-8+ years of work experience
• A love for beauty, an eye for great products, and perspective on where the beauty industry is heading next
• Experience in Merchandising, Sales, Buying, Planning or Business Development a must
• Experience in pitching & negotiations a must
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills a must
• Experience managing others a must (and in leading a team a plus)
• Experience contributing to team strategy and process management
• Ability to build strong relationships with both brands externally and cross team members internally
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and excitement in an ever changing environment
• A “no job too small,” “go-getter” attitude
• Experience with Mac OS, Power Point, Excel and Google Docs
• Bachelor's Degree
