Check is a payroll-as-a-service API that lets you embed payroll directly in your vertical SaaS, HR, or time-tracking platform. Our API abstracts away the complexities of running payroll: tax calculation, remittance, and filing, plus the movement of money between companies and employees. This enables companies to easily build fully integrated payroll products to offer to their customers.

As a Technical Account Manager at Check, you will ensure our Partners are developing best in class payroll products. You will work with our Partners who have achieved product market fit, and are actively growing their payroll business.  As a technical expert in our partner’s product, your role is essential for both Check’s growth as well as our Partners. Our Technical Account Managers will ensure our mutual roadmaps and requirements are communicated clearly and often.

You will be aligned with a Partner Success Manager(s) in this role, as well as several cross-functional teams. Together, you will design and execute strategies that build trust with our Partners. Driving towards our company, revenue, and Partner goals is always top of mind for our Technical Account Managers.

Our Partners are especially invested in Check because in the past, payroll products took several years of tedious work to build. Not only that, it cost millions of dollars. With Check, they are building best-in-class payroll products in months and generating revenue as a result. They need to grow quickly to meet their revenue goals, and we need to have the right resources in place to properly enable them for technical success.

We’re looking for a curious and organized individual who wants to challenge themselves at the intersection of several fields. You’ll become an expert in the emerging API infrastructure and embedded fintech landscape, and bring creativity to the decades-old world of payroll.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders with Partners: Understand Partners’ business models, their customer needs/requirements, organizational priorities, and ideal workflows to ensure targeted and specific solution guidance
  • Guide Check’s product strategy: By becoming an expert in our Partners’ embedded payroll product and business needs, you will guide Check’s product vision and decision-making
  • Conduct comprehensive technical discovery: Conduct deep discovery across multiple stakeholders, mapping the landscape of a partner’s HR and payroll-relevant product offering as well as employer/employee experience over time
  • Design and own detailed solutions: Own and drive creative, scalable solutions; integrate payroll and technical best practices
  • Drive technical project workstreams: Execute on designed solutions with partner product and engineering teams; drive toward milestones and optimize for unblocking revenue and our Partner’s customer experience
  • Influence strategic product roadmap: Combine customer feedback with Check go-to-market strategy to make strategic recommendations on product prioritization in both the short and long term
  • Communicate Check and Partner roadmaps: Understanding what development needs to be prioritized, when, and why across Check and our Partners is crucial; you will be an expert in both Check’s product and our Partners’
  • Technical Escalation Management: When necessary, you will ensure diligent communication is provided in the event of an escalated technical incident or issue
  • Develop the framework for the TAM function: Capture best practices ensuring we scale and grow the TAM team, enabling them for fast ramp and effective Partner collaboration

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have:

  • 8+ years in a customer-facing, technical solutions role integrating a differentiated software solution; experience advising on a compliance-driven solution is a plus
  • Technical competence: A strong command of how to leverage a flexible API-driven platform to achieve a differentiated partner product; ability to build trust with a developer audience; engineering experience is a plus
  • Cross-functional excellence: Demonstrated ability to create and drive cross-functional collaboration and initiatives to solve partner problems; comfortable and effective leading conversations with sales, product, engineering, and partner success
  • Documentation mastery: As solutions are designed, Check will require diligent documentation of our Partners’ products, changes, and more
  • Communication proficiency: Clear and concise communication (written, oral, virtual, or in-person) is paramount; ability to communicate technical concepts in business language to build consensus both internally and externally
  • Autonomy and initiative: Our lean team needs individuals who execute against a broad, strategic goal by appropriately prioritizing internal projects and partner engagements in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Executive Presence: Able to own a room, have strong communication skills with the ability to provide technical details technical and non-technical audiences alike; experience simplifying complexities in a concise/clear manner
  • Are able to travel occasionally, ~25%

The expected annual salary for this role is between $160,000 and $200,000, dependent upon each candidate’s unique experience and qualifications. Additionally, this role is expected to be eligible for performance-based compensation of $40,000 to $50,000 in the form of performance bonuses.
