About Outvote

Outvote, backed by YCombinator and Higher Ground Labs, was founded in 2017 as a get-out-the-vote tool for Democrats. Outvote has since expanded to become a distributed organizing platform allowing anyone to make an impact for the causes and candidates they care about. Our thesis is that grassroots activism at scale is better at changing hearts and minds than political ads. We empower activists with technology to make it easy to mobilize at in a way that is both impactful and coordinated with the campaigns and organizations that have been doing this vital work for decades.

In the 2018 midterms, Outvote helped build the biggest voter turnout in over 100 years. Users on Outvote contacted over 1 million voters. Columbia University’s Data Institute recently estimated that Outvote’s cost per vote was $2 in 2018, significantly lower than other political outreach methods. Outvote has been covered by The New York TimesWashington PostTechCrunchFast Company, and many more.

In 2020, Outvote will be working with Planned Parenthood nationwide and 100+ Planned Parenthood affiliates, the DCCC in all supported congressional campaigns, multiple presidential primary candidates, Greenpeace on climate change reform, and more.

About the Role

Outvote’s VP of Sales will be responsible for building strong relationships across an array of customer segments (including progressive and Democratic activist organizations, 501(c)4s, 501(c)3s, political campaigns, political action committees, and more), and ultimately booking new revenue.

Responsibilities:

  • Pipeline generation. Qualify leads and grow the top of the sales funnel.
  • Networking and meetings. Establish and build relationships with key contacts nationwide at a variety of political and advocacy organizations.
  • Pilot programs. Work with large partners and organizations to set up pilot programs for the Outvote product and then scale those efforts into larger distribution contracts.
  • Comprehensive sales strategy. Design a targeted approach for each customer segment, leveraging a deep understanding of how each prospect thinks about organizing and activism and appealing to their core needs.
  • Revenue booking. Activate relationships and the well-designed sales process to close deals with large and small organizations.
  • Measurement and reporting. Develop a system of tracking and reporting on sales performance, incorporating insights into strategic decision-making for future outreach. Implement key software tools, such as a CRM, to track deals.
  • People management. Assess Outvote’s sales needs and potentially grow a sales team to expand capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of working experience and a strong track record of success working on campaigns or in politics.
  • Experience working in sales or fundraising for 501c4s, 501c3s, PACs, or campaigns.
  • Deep understanding of pipeline generation, qualifying opportunities, and closing contracts in the industry.
  • Excited by the daily rigor and short-term demands of a start-up and able to tie those to long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Passionate about politics, progressive issue-based advocacy, and civic engagement.

We don’t expect each candidate to have expertise in every single one of these areas — we’re looking for candidates who are strong in a couple of areas, and are passionate about learning and growing in others.

We eagerly accept applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. Outvote is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate our employees’ differences, and know that differences — of all kinds — make us infinitely stronger.

  • 100% of medical and dental insurance premiums paid
