We are looking for an experienced legal counsel to join our dynamic and collaborative Supplier & GTM legal team at Atlassian. In this role, you will serve as an individual contributor within a team of legal professionals, supporting and advancing our Supplier and GTM initiatives as part of Atlassian's Commercial Legal team.
Overview
This is an excellent opportunity to become a vital member of a growing commercial legal team, contributing to key company initiatives and objectives. You will engage in multiple work streams within the Supplier and GTM pillar, collaborating with work stream leaders and their internal stakeholders across HR, legal, marketing, pricing and packaging, procurement, marketplace and ecosphere, as well as product and engineering teams. Your responsibilities will include negotiating key technology licensing and other strategic supplier agreements. Additionally, you will provide legal advice regarding changes in how we package and sell our offerings to new and existing customers, their interoperability with third-party technology, the introduction of innovations such as AI to the market, and legal considerations affecting major marketing initiatives, marketplace expansion, revenue drivers, compliance, and customer success initiatives.
What You'll Do :

  • What You'll Do:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align their strategies, offerings, and purchases with Atlassian standards, focusing on delivering pragmatic, business-minded solutions to support strategic company purchases and product development.
    • Structure, draft, and negotiate legal terms and conditions (on both Atlassian and third-party paper), including inbound license agreements and agreements for consulting, marketing, SaaS, data processing, and professional services, as well as inbound and outbound marketplace, connector, sweepstakes, and contest terms.
    • Advise and communicate with colleagues, stakeholders, customers, and partners regarding complex legal and business issues, including those related to intellectual property, data privacy, and other compliance obligations.
    • Contribute to various cross-functional projects that support company growth and innovation, including creating and updating legal templates, playbooks, and quote-to-cash and other processes.

Experience with and substantive knowledge of the following is expected:

    • SaaS Subscription Terms
    • GDPR and other privacy frameworks (including CCPA/CPRA)
    • HIPAA and benefits/HR agreements
    • Ownership and other IP considerations
    • AI compliance and contract terms

More About You:

  • You have experience negotiating complex commercial transaction agreements from the buy-side; additional sell-side experience is a plus.
  • You have a background in negotiating technology licensing and SaaS agreements for both internal and external (customer-facing) use cases.
  • You have supported multiple internal stakeholders across various departments and can build strong relationships with both third-party business partners and internal stakeholders.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment and can prioritize effectively.
  • You are adept at independently negotiating multiple contract templates without a playbook.
  • You possess excellent communication skills.
  • You can manage escalations and have the ability to promptly identify, evaluate, and provide pragmatic, risk-appropriate solutions based on sound legal and business judgment.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • At least 7+ years of experience drafting and negotiating terms for and advising on the legal implications of a wide range of transactions, with a focus on information technology, intellectual property, data privacy, and other compliance matters.
  • A J.D. with a license to practice law in a US jurisdiction (CIPP certification is a plus).
  • A passion for embracing our business model and Atlassian culture.
  • The ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work as part of a TEAM.
