I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Martha Stewart’s Senior Editor will be responsible for maintaining a sector of Martha’s digital content library, understanding home, food, garden, or lifestyle trends, and developing content strategy around all things home and lifestyle. The Senior Editor will leverage existing relationships with experts and category influencers to help develop best-in-class content that embodies the Martha Stewart spirit and helps set the tone for the industry.

Our Senior Editor must have a deep knowledge of and a strong passion for the Martha Stewart brand. They must have the ability to leverage historical work to inform, update, and create new strategies. 

They must be detail-oriented and deadline-driven to juggle the priorities and meet the deadlines that are crucial to the success of our business. They should also be highly organized, collaborative, and adept at using analytics and current SEO best practices to create and commission content and larger editorial initiatives that will help ensure we meet our goals.

About Your Contributions:

  • Assign and edit content from freelance and staff writers to ensure best practices are met. Write new and update existing content as needed.

  • Work with Martha’s Editorial Director and GM to manage complex content library maintenance strategy.

  • Manage budget related to your slate of writers, maintain relationships with experts, and source potential new writers.

  • Coordinate with photo studios to execute photo and video shoots, providing detailed instructions on assets needed.

  • Brainstorm ideas for ongoing content franchises and if interested, help produce and / or host videos / TikToks.

  • Work closely with editorial, social, email, and SEO teams with the goal of improving content quality.

  • Keep a pulse on the competitive landscape to identify trends and opportunities in the space.

  • May manage and train junior editors on the team, including editorial contractors, providing guidance, training, and project prioritization when needed.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience developing and curating digital content for web, email, and social environments against business goals.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Enthusiastic about the Martha Stewart brand, passionate about all things home, food, garden, or lifestyle

  • Consistently up to date with industry trends; able to identify topics of interest to a wide audience.

  • Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid proofing skills. Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs.

  • Experienced with editing and managing a large content pipeline. Prior experience editing lifestyle content is a must.

  • Proactive, flexible team player with a sense of humor and entrepreneurial energy, able to roll with the punches and take ownership in a fluid and fast-moving environment.

  • Operating experience with content management systems and web analytics tools and experience using data and revenue goals to inform and develop digital strategies.
