The Curriculum Platform Team's primary purpose is to support the needs of Codecademy’s curriculum developers and the content they produce. Our work involves crafting tools for authors, storing and presenting all content to the Codecademy learning environment, and maintaining our learner code evaluation platform.

What You'll Do

  • Implement the features and user interfaces of Codecademy products like our Interactive Learning Environment and our custom CMS
  • Use state of the art front-end technologies to architect efficient and reusable front-end systems that drive complex web applications
  • Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to deliver compelling user-facing products

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience developing web applications using Ruby on Rails and JavaScript, including concepts like asynchronous programming, closures, types, and ES6
  • Expertise in HTML & CSS, with a knack for layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility
  • You know your browser APIs and optimizing for frontend performance is a challenge you'll gladly accept
  • Proven experience with frontend frameworks like React JS or Angular JS

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or engineering
  • Experience developing user facing web applications at an top 100 site

Encouragement for learning new skills
Megan O’Neill’s UX career started back when she was in marketing at Codecademy. An engineer put out a call on Slack for help writing an error message, and she jumped at the chance to pitch in. “It might sound silly, but it was just so much fun,” she said. After 15 years in marketing, she’d been contemplating a career move, but wasn’t sure if it was the right time to share her interest in switching roles. “If it didn’t work out, I wasn’t sure what would happen. But in the end, my interest was met with a lot of support — and even excitement,” she said. Now, she’s the team’s first UX writer.

AI tools enable new possibilities in education
Artificial intelligence has become a critical component of decision-making at Codecademy. Ankit Rakha’s team has made great strides in using data and AI to set up a diversity, equity and inclusion analytics dashboard; create a data guild; open an experimentation forum; and incorporate enterprise tooling and machine learning platforms. He likes to think of the data science and engineering teams as a sort of “think tank” for Codecademy, providing insights, helping business partners find solutions and articulating needs: “We believe that data is our users’ voice.”
