Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join the Platform Services team, reporting to the Platform Engineering Manager. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver passionate about developer experience, automation, and scalable infrastructure. This is a highly visible role supporting internal engineering productivity through CI/CD optimization, infrastructure automation, and development environment enablement. This is your opportunity to shape the future of Vultr’s platform stack — designing the systems that power continuous delivery, infrastructure-as-code, and internal developer tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- CI/CD Ownership: Design, implement, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines that power all internal software delivery.
- Infrastructure Automation: Automate infrastructure deployments using Terraform and Puppet or Kubernetes to deliver consistent, repeatable environments.
- Developer Experience: Enhance internal development environments and tooling to streamline onboarding and local testing workflows.
- Systems Integration: Collaborate with various Engineering teams to ensure observability, reliability, and automation are built into every delivery pipeline.
- Configuration Management: Contribute to Puppet manifests, Helm charts and Terraform modules for core platform systems.
- Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with developers, QA Engineering, and engineering teams to enable reliable, efficient deployments.
- Documentation: Author clear, maintainable documentation for CI/CD workflows, automation scripts, and infrastructure processes.
Qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD systems, ideally GitLab, including pipeline templating, runners, and integrations.
- Strong background in Infrastructure-as-Code, using Terraform and configuration management tools (Puppet and/or Ansible).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation with Python, PHP, Bash, or similar languages.
- Hands-on experience with Linux environments, especially Debian-based distributions.
- Understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of version control and branching strategies in Git-based workflows.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Effective communication and documentation skills to support collaboration across teams.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, automation, and DevOps best practices.
Compensation
$100,000 - $130,000
