NowThis is seeking a experienced journalist and team lead to oversee news, politics and entertainment videos and social media coverage during weekend days, directly supervising and managing staffers assigned to a weekend schedule. The Senior Producer, Weekends will work closely with producers to cover the most important breaking and trending news of the day, and assists producers in cultivating ideas and angles for unique coverage. The Senior Producer, Weekends is responsible for monitoring daily news, assigning stories, script line editing and fact checking, and final video approvals. The Senior Producer will also drive breaking news coverage and engage with other senior editorial leadership and additional on-call team members to swarm stories for major breaking news incidents that require all hands on deck during weekend days. Additional duties may be assigned by the Editor from time to time.

This position is 5 days per week in our NYC offices. Saturday and Sunday staffing is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide video approval with constructive feedback to producers and freelancers in a timely manner, face-to-face ideally, and in line with NowThis best practices
  • Assist producers in enhancing their pitches to find the shareable angle: through research, additional reporting and interviews, and the ability to cover stories/topics differently from competitors
  • Work with Producers in thinking of creative ways to cover a story without assets
  • Oversee and execute on average, 3 videos per day per producer
  • Take charge during breaking news scenarios, prioritizing coverage and scripting when needed
