Current Need:

The Sr. Director of Technical Product Management (TPM) serves as the strategic bridge between Technical Product Management and individual business segments. The Senior Director partners with segment executives to translate business objectives into actionable digital product strategies and roadmaps. This leader oversees a portfolio of digital products and platforms, ensuring delivery of scalable, secure, and customer-centric solutions. The role drives cross-functional collaboration, fosters a product mindset, and ensures alignment between enterprise capabilities and segment-specific needs.  The Senior Director also plays a key role in talent development, governance of product practices, and fostering alignment between enterprise platform capabilities and segment-specific needs.  

Key Responsibilities:

Segment-Aligned Technical Product Strategy

  • Responsible for representing the technical product needs of a specific business segment within the enterprise.  It is expected that this role will have a seat at the table with segment leadership. 

  • Serves as a strategic thought partner to segment leadership, being responsible for developing segment-specific technical product strategy that aligns to the long-term segment technical product vision and to broader McKesson business objectives.  

  • Identifies net new technical product opportunities in support of segment business objectives, as well as drives the evolution of existing segment technical products. 

  • Develop, maintain and defend strong business cases for existing and proposed segment digital products and portfolios.   

  • Lead the end-to-end innovation process for new technical products, including but not limited to ideation, evaluation, prototyping, testing, scaling and commercialization, etc. 

  • Ensure the use of consumer and market insights in the development of segment strategy. 

Technical Product Team Management & Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Directly lead and manage the efforts of Digital Product Managers and other digital product team members in support of segment-specific technical products development and management. 

  • Contributes to, advocates for and ensures use of best-in-class technical product lifecycle processes and tools across the enterprise. 

  • Lead cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Design, Operations, etc. to deliver high-impact solutions. 

  • Drive collaboration between enterprise platform teams and segment-specific initiatives. 

Segment Technical Product Execution & Platform Integration

  • Oversees execution and ongoing management of segment-specific technical products.   

  • Ensures the maintenance of segment-specific technical product roadmaps, including detailed justifications for the prioritization and timing of investments.   

  • Oversee the performance and evolution of assigned digital platforms or product portfolios, ensuring platform capabilities are leveraged effectively across business use cases. 

  • Help define the operational and technical architecture needed to cost-effectively develop and deliver high-performing technical solutions at scale. 

 

Technical Product Measurement

  • Develop KPIs aligned with strategic, operational and leadership responsibilities, including but not limited to product adoption rates, usage growth, revenue contribution, cost savings, customer satisfaction, time to market, platform utilization, quality, cycle time, employee engagement, participation in governance, adoption of product management best practices, etc. 

  • Ensure the consistent documented measurement, tracking and communication of KPIs with stakeholders. 

  • Ensure the use of KPIs in both tactical (e.g., feature and function prioritization) and strategic (e.g., accelerating or reducing investment, etc.) decision making. 

 

Communicate & Advocate for Segment

  • Responsible for managing and aligning the expectations of all stakeholders related to segment-specific technical products. 

  • Maintain a close working relationship with assigned segment leadership. 

  • Accountable for ensuring the proper resourcing in support of the segment-specific technical product agenda, including but not limited to financial resources, internal staffing, external partnerships, internal political support, etc.   

  • Develops and delivers presentations to the most senior McKesson executives through to line-level staff to advance segment-specific technical product objectives. 

Minimum Requirement:

  • Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience AND 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

 

Critical Skills:

  • 13+ years of professional experience in progressively advancing technical product management roles. 

  • 6+ years' experience leading various aspects of technical product teams, including demonstrated experience with planning, financial management, communication, stakeholder management, etc. 

  • 3+ years proven experience working directly with and influencing senior executives to secure support for, as well as communicate the value of and progress on technical product initiatives. 

  • 3+ years experience directly managing high-performing technical product teams. 

  • Hands-on experience in health care industry and/or regulated environment is a plus 

  • Demonstrated understanding of product technical product lifecycle management, agile methodologies, and digital transformation. 

  • Strong business acumen with ability to align product strategy with organizational goals. 

 

Additional Knowledge & Skills:

  • 3+ years demonstrated fluency in managing product finances, including, but not limited to developing product business cases, ability to develop strong cost-benefit analysis, ability to translate soft-benefits into measurable financial metrics, etc.   

  • The following (or similar) certifications are optional but advantageous: Certified Product Manager (CPM); Certified Innovation Leader (CIL), Product Leader Certification (PLC), Certified Digital Transformation Officer, Scrum Master, SAFe, etc. 

  • Demonstrated ability to engage deeply with engineering, architecture, and data teams to evaluate technical trade-offs, influence solution design, and ensure feasibility of product strategies. 

  • Strong understanding of modern digital architectures, APIs, cloud platforms, data ecosystems, and software development practices. 

 

Working Conditions:

  • Traditional Hybrid environment.   

  • Commutability to the Dallas/Fort Worth area is highly preferred but not required.

  • Travel up to 20%
