This position requires a “hands-on”, self-starter with fundamental tax knowledge, strategic thinking and an eye towards constant process improvement. Working on the finance team, you will communicate cross-functionally with all departments of the company and must possess the initiative to proactively interface with and learn the business. To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong tax research skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to always stay one step ahead, anticipating the risks and challenges we face during rapid growth and expansion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with filing of federal and state corporate tax returns; and/or assist external tax advisor in compiling the required data
- Provide Sales and Use tax services, including monitoring the company’s nexus position, managing state/city registrations & compliance and researching product / service taxability
- Process monthly, quarterly and annual sales/use and indirect tax returns for multiple domestic and international jurisdictions
- Maintain and develop relationships with external tax advisors to identify and implement tax planning opportunities, process improvements and other cost reduction opportunities
- Ability to research and interpret technical tax law and regulations, including federal, state and city tax law
- Assist outside tax advisors in the preparation of various international tax filings as well as the year-end tax provision
- Provide practical, solution-focused responses to issues and effectively communicate tax concepts, tax planning structure and tax risks
- Assist with development and implementation of internal tax compliance processes
- Work closely with our accounting and legal teams on variety of relevant projects and initiatives
- Maintain tax calendar, tax matrices, tax ID numbers, and tax exemption certificates
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or similar
- CPA (or active CPA candidate either testing or planning to test) and/or Master’s in Taxation
- Minimum of 3 years of tax experience, ideally in multi-state environment, with solid understanding of sales & use tax concepts
- Ability to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law, as well as extract data, and make appropriate recommendations
- Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
- Have the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, highly adaptive environment
- Detail oriented, well organized, and able to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects at once
- Ability to successfully interact and collaborate across the organization
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate Excel skills
