We’re looking for a Translation Manager on our International Team to manage translations across the company, working directly with teams creating content for translation and vendors providing translations services. You will have the opportunity to work on a team dedicated to improving our user experience internationally and helping the business grow globally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop processes for a variety of projects that include an appropriate level of localization (i.e. time and resource allocation for all translation/review steps)
  • Meet with Product, Tech, and Marketing teams to verify that they are incorporating localization into their project plans at all necessary points in the process
  • Review localizable copy for complexity and comprehensibility before translation
  • Coordinate with translation vendors and in-house reviewers to ensure content is translated in a timely, accurate, and consistent fashion
  • Become familiar with the Shutterstock writing style
  • Maintain Shutterstock translation memory, glossaries, and style guides for each language and namespace
  • Educate other employees about localization, our translation processes, and generating content that is conducive to being translated
  • Conduct periodic site-wide reviews of content to look for any inconsistencies or odd translations across all products and resolve them
  • Coordinate with localization quality assurance (LQA) linguists to help maintain high-quality content and products in all languages
  • Use the knowledge gained from involvement with multiple teams and projects to improve the process and find ways for Shutterstock to be more efficient

Requirements

  • Knowledge and interest in a variety of languages
  • Sharp proofreading skills for various types of copy
  • Ability to work across platforms and in file types used by translators (industry standards: .xml, .xliff, .tmx, .json, Memsource, MemoQ, Trados; also .doc, .xls, .ppt, .indd)
  • Understanding of multimodality (interaction of font, color scheme, page design, images, etc. with text) of copy in different contexts, and in different browsers/formats
  • Sensitivity to the complexity of copy from a translation point of view
  • Understanding of Agile processes and how to construct flexible workflows that can accommodate localization
