Major League Baseball is seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of User Experience Engineering to lead our team in creating exceptional digital experiences for our fans around the world. This role is crucial in shaping the way fans interact with our digital platforms, ensuring seamless, engaging, and innovative experiences across all touchpoints. This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the User Experience Engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for user experience engineering, aligning with MLB's overall business objectives
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of user interfaces and interactive features across MLB's digital platforms
  • Work directly with MLB and MLB Clubs to build out a roadmap of feature releases that excite fans of MLB
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and performant digital experiences
  • Collaborate with product, design, and service/data development teams to define and refine user experience requirements and cutting-edge experiences for baseball fans
  • Participate and conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and optimize user experiences
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in user experience engineering, particularly how the use of AI will build agility and improve time to market for new features, as well as drive innovation within the team
  • Establish and maintain best practices for user experience engineering, including coding standards, accessibility guidelines, and performance optimization
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support for their professional growth

Drive operational excellence

  • Work with the MLB Site Reliability team to establish and monitor KPIs for system reliability and engineering productivity
  • Oversee incident management processes and ensure SLA adherence
  • Manage budget planning, forecasting, and expenditures
  • Develop strategic relationships with platform vendors and internal partners
  • Represent engineering in executive-level meetings and decision-making

What you bring

  • Proven track record in strong leadership through digital transformation and enterprise-scale software delivery
  • Experience building and leading a high-performance engineering team and culture
  • Creative, strategic thinking and thoughtful decision-making skills
  • Engaging communication style with ability to connect across all levels of an organization
  • Proven experience with React Native development and native iOS/Android mobile applications  
  • Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience implementing web and mobile application analytics technologies such as Adobe Experience Cloud and/or Google Analytics
  • Strong technical decision-making skills with a focus on scalability and performance
  • Strong understanding of mobile and service architecture patterns and best practices
  • Deep understanding of mobile app performance optimization and debugging
  • 8+ years of experience leading digital product development and supporting team members, 5+ years of experience in mobile technical leadership roles 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in user experience engineering, with significant leadership experience in leading mobile, web and living room experiences
  • Proven track record of delivering successful digital experiences at scale
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
  • Expertise in user-centered design principles and methodologies
  • Experience with user research and usability testing
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Passion for baseball and a deep understanding of the fan experience

Salary Range: $280,000 - $330,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
