As a senior member of our technology team you will be responsible for designing and building key components of a system that impacts thousands of creators and millions of students. The ideal candidate for this role has had significant experience with a variety of manual and automated QA testing technologies, processes, and methodologies - as our team is small but growing we are looking for manager who can contribute hands-on as necessary as well as owning the team’s technology strategy, structure, processes, and best practices. You should also be an experienced people manager who has a track record of successfully mentoring and growing their direct reports.

Participate in daily stand-ups, bi-weekly sprint planning, and sprint retrospectives for the team (we work in agile here). Facilitate ticket assignment – you know the strengths of engineers on your team, and when to give them new challenges to help them grow. Collaborate with the team’s Product Manager to determine longer-term roadmaps. Collaborate with engineering managers to help your teammates grow and develop. Build the product! A solid portion of this role will be hands-on writing code, and we’ll look to your senior expertise to set the standard for the team. Review code and provide technical mentorship to engineers on your team (and across the company).

We are looking for a technical leader to join our growing engineering team at Teachable. Our engineering team is structured into small pods of four to six engineers, each led by a pod lead. For this role you will oversee a team of engineers on the Creator Team, supporting team members and ensuring the successful execution of their projects and operations. The Creator team owns the core workflows, services, and tools that empower our creators to share their knowledge on the Teachable Platform.  While you will not be expected to writing critical path code, you will spend some time coding and be the technical owner on your team. You achieve results not through micromanagement, but rather by empowering your team and helping them to run autonomously to deliver great work. You are a growing people manager who cares about the well-being and growth of your engineers, you have experience coaching your team members to success and developing their careers.

Take an ownership of Manual QA efforts in a given area of product. Create comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases based on product specifications. Work alongside our product team to analyze design specs and detect potential issues in early stages of developmen. Conduct functional and regression testing. Report defects and testing statuses. Identify test scenarios for automation . Write automated integration tests (Selenium WebDriver, Capybara, Cucumber). Embrace a growth mindset and share a willingness learn new tools and technologies.

Intermediate to Advanced SQL skills, including windowing functions, nested queries, regular expressions, and a solid understanding of how relational databases work. At least one year of industry experience working with business data. Experience with creating reports and data visualizations in a Business Intelligence tool (e.g., Looker, Tableau). Some programming experience in any language. Comfortable working in a product and business-driven, fast-paced, dynamic environment. Enjoys working collaboratively with peers across business and engineering teams. Outstanding communications skills, including the ability to speak clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences and to write clearly.
