We are a global media company that publishes nearly 260 magazine editions and 200 websites around the world and, together, we are reinventing publishing for the 21st century.

Your impact:

Cosmopolitan is seeking a sophisticated digital content strategist, sharp top editor, and thoughtful manager to join its leadership ranks, helping to drive the brand to excellence and innovation. As Executive Digital Editor, you will strive to ensure that Cosmo is making the smartest moves and the best content online. You will collaborate closely with the Editor-in-Chief on brand vision, digital strategy, management, and ambitious projects, and you will shape, coach, and iterate on Cosmo's digital work across the entire team.

The ideal candidate is a passionate self-starter who's hungry to sink their teeth into a juicy role at a vivacious brand. You thrive on making an impact, especially by rolling up your sleeves to dig in on projects large and small. You're energetic, creative, and curious. You're a savvy prioritizer and problem-solver, and you pride yourself on adapting to digital's ever-evolving landscape. You have a keen sense of voice, aesthetics, audience behavior, and the publishing industry. You're an experienced manager with a strong track record of mentorship. You like having fun at work!

A rich environment for ambitious creatives with a "let me at it" spirit, Cosmopolitan has tens of millions of readers, a presence on every platform, decades of feminist legacy, and a strong desire to help define the future, both for American women and for media. This role plays a major part.

What you'll do:

  • Direct Cosmo's digital editorial strategy, overseeing a team of staff writers and editors to produce daily coverage, plus longer-lead features, that drive towards growth and buzz
  • Top-edit high-level digital content of a variety of types across a variety of platforms
  • Monitor, analyze, and implement new strategies as the result of data insights across core brand initiatives (SEO, traffic, affiliate revenue, video, memberships, engagement) in an effort to grow and strengthen brand offerings
  • Create groundbreaking editorial initiatives that increase Cosmo's visibility and impact
  • Oversee social media to ensure that Cosmo is optimizing key platforms for audience building, referral traffic, and brand awareness
  • Partner with Cosmo's brand strategist and the Hearst Magazines sales team, designing editorial calendars, developing digital-first editorial programs for sponsorship, and helping to craft strong go-to-market messages about the brand
  • Collaborate with Cosmo's editor-in-chief to set overall vision for Cosmopolitan.com and brand socials, and to make critical decisions about staffing, organizational structure, and workflow, with an eye towards building both a high-functioning, successful team and a workplace that gives them opportunities for career enrichment and development
  • Communicate with various stakeholders across the Hearst organization, including partnerships, product, licensing, commerce, and memberships
  • Work with product and engineering teams to dream up high-quality and digitally innovative experiences for Cosmo readers

Who you are:

  • You have 8+ years of experience in digital media, ideally with stints at women's brands
  • You have a strong grasp of and regular working intimacy with SEO and e-commerce best practices, and have experience navigating strategy shifts to maximize success
  • You've overseen or worked closely with social media and are intimately familiar with its role in brand growth
  • You have top-edited every kind of story, from an e-commerce sale roundup to a feature report to an Instagram caption, and are effective at articulating feedback to editors and designers alike
  • You've managed a team and are experienced at guiding others through new projects and initiatives
  • You've collaborated with sales and marketing teams to help facilitate client-worthy ideas that generate revenue
  • You foster successful relationships across organizations to represent and advocate for your brand
  • You're deeply familiar with analytical tools like GA and Looker, and take it upon yourself to learn from the numbers and implement changes accordingly
  • You're a fast and effective decision-maker capable of independently executing against those decisions and assessing their results
  • You like to think outside the box and have a portfolio of innovative projects you want to build on

The base salary for this role is between $163,000 and $189,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
